I believe there about 130 D1 FBS teams. We are ranked 22nd. In less than 3 years we have gone from obscurity to National prime time TV and being ranked. We are a few plays away from being undefeated. We are in the process of renovating our stadium which will provide us with a very unique and press/news worthy venue. We are in arguably the best overall conference in collegiate sports, one that will launch its own Network next year. We are one of 3 football powers in the east and the only one that plays our style of offense. We have a high profile dynamic head coach and the best Administration at SU in decades.

WE CAN COMPETE.

Now is the time for the administration to fully commit, to go all in and secure Dino. Lightning doesnt strike twice. If we can secure Dino i truly believe thst combined with The new Stadium, ACC Network and minimal eastern recruiting competition we can remain ranked on a yearly basis and more often than not compete for a league title.
Its been 17 years. Its our time. I hope that the administration seizes this opportunity to ensure SUs resurgence continues and we reclaim our position as a football power.

Could not agree more!!

To compete you have to be able to recruit. To recruit you have to win. All we really need is 3 or 4 straight "big win" seasons (8-10 games would be considered big) with that signature win or 2 each season, to completely flip our perception on the recruiting trail. These are 17 and 18 year old kids. They haven't been around long enough for anything over 5 years to really matter. It's pretty easy to go from a recruiting power to a has been, and then back again. To do all of this we need to have the right coach. Dino Babers is that man.

Finally, we are clearly heading in the right direction.

Great post but ACC fb is borderline laughable this year nationally and its talked about on a weekly basis. All Clemson has in favor of schedule strength year to year is the games against FSU and the ville and NCST a little bit, very small. Clemson schedules big in the OOC knowing this. The ACC is down this year on both sides with Miami being just ok and NC, wake, Ville, FSU, and gt being down. The ACC is easily the last, 5th rated P5 conference.

So is the Pac12 and the Big XII to some extent, the Big Ten.

Clemson is undefeated and a solid position to get the NC game

It is too soon to tell. The ACC could have a season like they did in the 90s where it was FSU and the 8 dwarves where at least one of the dwarves would finish in 17-25 range or it could have a season more like 2014 where GT came on late in the season to finish in the Top 10 along with FSU and UL finished in the Top 20 due to their success in the last couple of weeks with Clemson being in the 18-24 range the latter half of that year consistently.

Right now the ACC has three teams with 6-2 records and a third (NC State) with a 5-2 record. They could all play .500 or less ball in their last 4/5 games, but if two or three of them can finish 4-0/5-0 or 3-1/4-1 the end of the year will look a lot better than it looks now. It's really a toss-up at this point and could go either way.

Cheers,
Neil

This is the first year in the last 5 that’s even kinda true. All the P5s have down years. Won’t stay that way

I think everybody has 4 games left--NC St had its game vs. WVa cancelled due to the hurricane.

They picked up a make-up game with ECU at the end of the season. I believe it was contingent upon them not making the ACC championship game.

ACC may be down this year, but will still put Clemson and maybe Notre Dame in the playoff.
ACC has had Florida State in the playoff 2 years ago. Miami is coming back. Virginia Tech is still a good program. We are coming back. BC is coming back.

Pac 12 and Big 12 would LOVE to be in our shoes right now.

The ACC will be fine. We aren't going anywhere. You guys are going to be a consistent 20-35 type team I think. NC State will as well. Miami will be back and so will FSU and VT. There is just a lot of parity in the league this year behind Clemson.

The ACC will always be strong as we reside in a great area to recruit.

Someone posted on a different thread how paying the coach and winning more games will pay for itself in the long run.

We know this to be the case and I think JW will open the checkbook.

As posted above it takes two to tango and hopefully Dino takes the bag of cash from us.

I think as long as we invest, he's not going anywhere. He must be able to taste it now.

Always easier when both sides want same thing, or close to it

What makes you think that both sides don't want the same thing?

Given the changes we have seen -- practice facility, dome reno announcement, increased efforts with recruiting (jets, etc.) -- the University is trying.

Last thing to come is the common fan. I think we're getting closer to that happening.

Pretty clear to me both sides want the same thing.

Dino and Wild have both said that they dont discuss contractual matters in season. Other than USC i dont see any programs that are true threats. We need a minimum of 2 more years to strengthen our program. My guess is that Dino might be wrestling with a lifestyle decision. I agree that the administration will make a solid offer

My issue with all this stuff is NOBODY and I mean NOBODY knows if Dino wants to be here long term or he will try and take some success at Syracuse and cash in at a bigger program. I don't buy that there won't be better opportunities for him at some point. When I say better opportunities I mean a salary package that likely doubles his earnings as well as most of his key staff.

Wildhack can keep trying but if Dino is taking a wait and see approach well not much you can do. I would be willing to bet that the university has attempted to extend him at this point.

Just have to wait and see how it plays out

Well said. The dominos will start falling once USC loses to ND final game of the year. USC is not going to stay with Helton long. He's not "sexy" enough of a hire to give him the rope he needs.

They'll act fast and the university has to be ready for it if they think they can retain with money. If he's showing an interest in the west coast the school has to decide QUICKLY if they want to retain the system and hire within. This is fraught with peril (see Scott Shafer).

I hope Wildhack isn't caught flat footed and has a list of guys ready to go. I was talking to someone who knows the BC inner workings and he was telling me that they aren't enthused with Addazio b/c he wasn't a Jarmond hire. If they slip down the stretch, he may be on the outside looking in as well. We'll be competing against BC in that situation.

Hopefully the tin foil hat scenarios are just that. Just hated when Marrone left and we were wayyy behind the 8 ball w handling the transition (see Nate Hackett)

Are they ed. Addazio has turned that crap house into a respectable team. Who cares whose guy it is if he is doing his job. That’s pure stupidity.

Oh I agree and was surprised that was the thought process. They fired Jeff Jags after interviewing with the Jets so anything is possible at the Heights. Just passing along what I heard. They want, like us, to be competing for ACC titles and not going to bowl games w 6 wins. The interest level for BC football is at an all time low right now regardless of the results.
