We have fallen so hard off the national landscape- CBS article on coaches on the hot seat

2013 looks like such a House of Cards.
Penn State L 17–23
Northwestern L 27–48
Wagner W 54–0
Tulane W 52–17
Clemson L 14–49
NC State W 24–10
Georgia Tech L 0–56
Wake Forest W 13–0
Maryland W 20–3
Florida State L 3–59
Pitt L 16–17
Boston College W 34–31
Minnesota W 21–17

22 PPG(17 PPG w/o Wagner/Tulane) and giving up 25 PPG(28 PPG w/o Wagner/Tulane).

This past year was nothing short of disaster and yet CBSSports doesn't think Syracuse should consider SS as one of the top 10 coaches on the hot seat. I think our expectations are higher than we should expect if SS isn't one of the top 10 coaches on the hot seat.
I'm not disagreeing with you on this season and the production of the 2013 season, but regardless of how pretty it was, the 2013 team could just as easily have ended 9-4. The Penn State game and the Pitt game were both very much in reach. If they had won those games the bowl game would have been against a tougher team though most likely finishing at 8-4 instead of 6-6 so maybe the overall record would have ended up 8-5 instead of 9-4.

Again, the "hot seat" is not about who the national writers think should be candidates to be fired. It is their expectation of how they think the AD/Admin. view the situation. The writers are not offering their opinion of who should be on the hot seat.

Totally agreed. This is very true as regards Golden. From an outsider's perspective, you'd think people there would cut him slack. The spectre of probation is always hanging over that program. While he's in a talent-rich location, Miami is third in line for access to that talent. However, he's fighting the ghosts from the championship teams and I think the expectations are way out line down there. If anything, the best thing Golden could do is stop wearing a shirt and tie on game day. The Miami coach should always be "football casual" (or at least wear all black like Al Pacino in "Any Given Sunday").

Do you guys just look for things to get agitated about?

I get paid to be suspicious when I've got nothing to be suspicious about.

I have to admit Fedora is the only one other than Golden that rings much of a bell. And I think that's more because I like hats. While the names are a little familiar if you had asked me to name the Ill, UNC, USF or UVa coach I'm pretty sure I'd come up 1 for 4 at best. That's likely how fans of other teams feel about Shafer. After 2 years his seat is not really pre-season hot.
