We knew the ACC sucked this year, but

They’ve recreated everything that was wrong with pro sports… Except 30 years ago, the NFL put in the first salary cap, and all the other pro sports followed.

NCAA sports have literally gone back 30 years to when sports were their absolutely most broken.
So true. Pro leagues have prioritized parity while the dolts who run college sports prioritize inequality.

So dumb.

agreed. We used to have a salary cap, it was called 13 scholarships for everyone, and a free education. And the better your college was, the better your coach was, the more your fans cared about your team, and the better your tradition was, was how you built teams.

And now, (this is a reality, not hyperbole) most power five college players have a greater “Name image and likeness value“ than most pro players. Who here in NY has ever seen Brunson or Bridges or Towns do a commercial or be the spokesman for something? Not to mention the bench warmers. Wherever Chris Bell goes, his name image and likeness will be “worth more” than almost every one of the New York Knicks.

That is how broken this is.

And people will keep buying the lie that these players are “making so much money for the universities”. Most teams are now deciding if they will go further and further into the red to “finance” their programs or not.

It’s been years of conference-wide neglect. For example, here’s how the ACC has ranked against other conferences in SRS (Simple Rating System) in recent years:

2025: 5th
2024: 5th
2023: 7th
2022: 6th
2021: 6th
2020: 5th
2019: 3rd
2018: 3rd
2017: 2nd

SIX seasons (and counting) since this league was either the worst power conference or even lower!

ACC SRS as a % of the average SRS of top 3 conferences. Gives us a better idea of the ACC's fall compared to the top.

2025: 5th (58%)
2024: 5th (83%)
2023: 7th (56%)
2022: 6th (68%)
2021: 6th (80%)
2020: 5th - (77%)
2019: 3rd - (96%)
2018: 3rd - (94%)
2017: 2nd - (97%)
2016 - 2nd (103%)
2015 - 2nd (96%)
2014 - 5th (86%)

The ACC did have a bit of a jump in 2024 in SRS and were more competitive vs the best -- moreso because the current Big3 were down.

But 2023 and 2025 are very clear lows for the ACC. ACC in 2023 may have been a bit worse, but the SEC and BIG are getting very strong.

This is fantastic work!

Personally, the only time I’m engaged with the ACC is when SU is good and the conference is strong. Neither has been the case in years.

If I'm McNesse State and somebody told me before the game that they would have 45 points with 11 minutes, I would have assumed Clemson was in control of the game.

An incredibly bizarre game.
Will Wade is a winner. I will not be surprised if he more than holds his own against Hubert Davis.

They are both rising because of all the HUGE football money and power. The lack of both for the ACC are central to its basketball plummet - that and a series of just bad HC hires.
