We need a 9 win season

if we play conference game on 9/6 @ wake forest is most likely

Regardless of number of wins, I want to start seeing teams that don't need to make a huge improvement from the beginning of the season to the end to be good. This was two years in a row that we looked like a completely different team in the bowl game versus game one. I'm glad we were able to do it, as it shows we have coaches that can coach kids up or alter strategies throughout the season, and I think it was understandable, given the coaching changes. This season I want to see a team that looks like a bowl team in game one and then see refinement from there. Should this result in more wins? Yeah, it would've meant beating Penn St. this past season. Does it guarantee more wins? No, because everyone else is trying to do the same thing.

Agreed. I think that some of that comes from having enough depth to be able to RS talent. That has been a challenge for us but I think it is changing. We had some true freshman that played only sparingly and had we had more depth perhaps they could have red shirted and saved a year.

The depth is certainly developing and I am hopeful we are almost where we need to be.

You make a valid argument for sure, but at what point is 7 wins no longer enough?

Never. You don't fire coaches in Syracuse for having winning seasons. We aren't Alabama and never will be. I appreciate your 'want to' but reality is this is a small private university with a limited fan base, small stadium, in the snowiest city in the United States. It's the same reason 4 and 5 star recruits will never come here consistently as you asked. This isn't a school that can compete with the likes of Alabama, FSU, Mich, USC, etc. Those schools have more to offer big time athletes. We will get lucky and get an occasional one here or there, but the big programs have the fan support, financial support, facilities, and tradition to keep them recruiting better than SU for quite some time. Unless we get some big time donor to go all Oregon on us and build football's version of disney land, we just aren't going to be one of those schools. So we follow the other manta, get some good kids, with great character, great work ethic, and lots of raw ability and turn them into football players. Did you know of all the recent big time draftees, none of them were 4/5 star kids. The Jones brothers and Nassib were 2/3 star guys. Gross and Grob tried to turn us into USC, and it resulted in the worst 4 year period in our history. We are not USC, we are, S-U!! We are blue-collar, hard-nosed, and win or lose teams know they were in a fight...that is our mantra and our only path to success.

Though I'd feel much better if it was home, I think we have a shot at Clemson with them losing all that they are. i'd feel even better if Beasley left, but we do have Hickey back, too.

Beasley did leave and will be drafted in the top half of 1st round; Clemson is still absolutely loaded and they are bringing in at least 10 4 star recruits, 5 of whom are already enrolled; and, even as a diehard SU fan, I know enough to know that SU is not at the stage yet where we will have much of a "shot" at all playing Clemson at Death Valley.

I agree. This game is un winnable.

I think it also means getting more kids that get good before they're seniors. Just imagine if all of the offensive contributors from last year had been back this year with the same coaching staff. I think we'll get some of that in '14 with Hunt, Morris, Estime, Broyld, and some of the other young receivers that came on toward the end of the year. We've been doing it already on defense, so hopefully we can keep the ball rolling there and replace the few (albeit important) guys that left on that side.

So...you think I might be "safe" taking Clemson -7 in my bet with Orangepace?

Now, if 690West comes on board, I am all in!

And we throw rocks at Rutgers fans

I don't consult. Let's lock this in. ;)
