Not in points scored which is what matters.Barely? The offense was 17th in 2012.
Regardless of number of wins, I want to start seeing teams that don't need to make a huge improvement from the beginning of the season to the end to be good. This was two years in a row that we looked like a completely different team in the bowl game versus game one. I'm glad we were able to do it, as it shows we have coaches that can coach kids up or alter strategies throughout the season, and I think it was understandable, given the coaching changes. This season I want to see a team that looks like a bowl team in game one and then see refinement from there. Should this result in more wins? Yeah, it would've meant beating Penn St. this past season. Does it guarantee more wins? No, because everyone else is trying to do the same thing.
You make a valid argument for sure, but at what point is 7 wins no longer enough?
Though I'd feel much better if it was home, I think we have a shot at Clemson with them losing all that they are. i'd feel even better if Beasley left, but we do have Hickey back, too.
Beasley did leave and will be drafted in the top half of 1st round; Clemson is still absolutely loaded and they are bringing in at least 10 4 star recruits, 5 of whom are already enrolled; and, even as a diehard SU fan, I know enough to know that SU is not at the stage yet where we will have much of a "shot" at all playing Clemson at Death Valley.
I think it also means getting more kids that get good before they're seniors. Just imagine if all of the offensive contributors from last year had been back this year with the same coaching staff. I think we'll get some of that in '14 with Hunt, Morris, Estime, Broyld, and some of the other young receivers that came on toward the end of the year. We've been doing it already on defense, so hopefully we can keep the ball rolling there and replace the few (albeit important) guys that left on that side.Agreed. I think that some of that comes from having enough depth to be able to RS talent. That has been a challenge for us but I think it is changing. We had some true freshman that played only sparingly and had we had more depth perhaps they could have red shirted and saved a year.
The depth is certainly developing and I am hopeful we are almost where we need to be.
I agree. This game is un winnable.
