We need linemen badly

Have the feeling we may be going juco route there.

we're not going the juco route. we'll bring in a HS guard and tackle this class to go with the 13 kids who'll return for 2014. This puts 15 OL on the roster and 16 if you count Kendall Moore.

Hickey is the only kid leaving next year so in 2015 we'll return 15 of 16 lineman.

Our two-deep at OL is solid for the next two years, IMO.

2014 SU Offensive Linemen
T - Hickey (Sr.), Foy (Jr.), Lasker (Jr.), Knapp (So.), Moore (So.), McGloster (RFr.), Burton (RFr.), Ward, Fr.
G - Trudo (Jr.), Robinson (Jr.), Miller (Jr.), Palmer (So.), Hayes (RFr.), Roberts (Fr.)
C - Emerich (So.)

My count is 15 players along the OL, 14 of which have at least two years of eligibility left. I think tackle is fine with Foy, Lasker, Knapp and hopefully Ward. Then if one of the big projects can possibly pan out, or if Moore is converted to OT, we'll have more than enough depth. At guard we have three capable guys to rotate, with Miller, Hayes and Roberts battling it out for the fourth spot on the two-deep.

Backup center is the only spot that there's a little uncertainty. But I would like to think that Trudo can step in if something were to happen with Emerich. We have some decent depth at G with Palmer and I believe Hayes was looked upon as a pretty good recruit coming out of Georgia.

I'll defer, your more of a recruiting person then I. I just looked at the fact that we graduated a few and we had two leave and thought we needed some.

How about on the other side of the ball? I think we still need a couple in this class.

Agreed - I think DT is the one spot where we haven't "hit" outside of Wayne Williams.

Interior linemen for 2014
Crume (Sr.), Williams (Jr.), Sloan (Jr.), Raymon (Jr.), Coleman (So.), Rodney (Fr.)?

Potential hybrids
Johnson (So.), Thompson (So.)

DE options
Simmons (Jr.), Welsh (Sr.), Robinson (Sr.), Trejo (Jr.), Slayton (Fr.)

Position change candidates
Batten (RFr.)?

A lot of question marks with Williams (adjustment to D1/weight) and Raymon (injury), then Sloan and Coleman really haven't played a whole lot. If Raymon hadn't gotten hurt, I think we might be a little thin here but talented enough at the top end with Sloan/Coleman/Williams backing up.

They have to be looking at moving I. Johnson or Thompson inside. Maybe even both. If they do move inside and have some success we are set up pretty decently as both still have 3 years of eligibility left.

Two points
1. Williams is a RS Jr.

2. Moving a guy like Zeek Johnson inside should be a total non-starter. It's not often you get a guy that can do what he did for us last year as a freshman, and if we have a speed rusher in Simmons on one side we need a run stopper/pass rusher like Johnson on the other side, which we currently don't have. IMO the best option to move inside would be Thompson as he has the frame and appeared to be huge last year.

I have Williams listed as a Jr. Did not designate redshirt or not, except Batten. Not sure what the difference is.

To your other point - Micah Robinson is more of a run stopper than a speed guy. So is Welsh. Not disagreeing - I think Johnson did well from what we saw of him last year. I agree with Thompson being the best bet. Just giving possible options from the outside looking in...
