he should shooting 5 or 6 3s per game. last 6 games lydon 3 point attempts: 3, 3, 2, 6 (need more of that), 2, 1. that aint enough. i dont want him on the block every time down, i want him picking and popping! we need to see more of this, only with both shoes on

The best way to get Lydon more 3 point attempts is to get Lydon to stop passing up 3 point attempts. Too many pump fakes and indecisive moments for him, both outside and inside the 3 point line.

Agreed. He has to remember that he is a shooter too. While passing the ball and being unselfish is a great attribute, so is taking the shot if you can.

on the one hand, he's being smart. passing up even slightly contested shots for truly open ones generally make for a more efficient offense.

but on the other hand, we don't beat Duke without Gillon and Battle having the confidence to take (and make!) contested shots at critical times

Yeah if he was passing up semi-contested looks to get better shots for himself or for teammates, then I'd agree. The problem is that more often than not, that's not the case. He's pump-faking and dribbling into a turnover or pump-faking and going nowhere and passing back out to reset, and we end up getting a shot of equal or lower quality than we would have gotten if he just pulled the trigger in the first place. Frustrating to watch sometimes.

We also need Gillon to recognize him and pass to him quicker when he pops open.

This can't be overstated. He's open and then Gillon hesitates just a second and then passes. And Lydon is no longer open as much as he was before. And then guys here lose their minds when he passes the ball to someone who is more open.

He can be too unselfish sometimes though.

Is he just too small? Can we reasonably expect the pick and pop to be a viable option with Gillon handling the ball? With G running the pick and pop, he could survey the floor and easily hit Lydon as soon as he pops open.. It's just not happening with Gillon.

Collectively, we're actually really bad at throwing passes 1) at the time when a player can do something with the ball and 2) to a place where they can naturally make a move.

It's just sloppy.

Gillon always seems to be a half second late on passes. It usually is not detrimental, but White, Lydon, and Battle have missed some open shots due to the delays

Lydon is legit 6'9" with long arms and decent ups.
If he gets the ball on the perimeter - he's open.
He's not being guarded by LeBron out there.

He needs to remember that.

I wonder if JB is having Lydon post up more because we are horrendous at rebounding and he will be in better position if he is already near the basket. It is also worthless for him to be posting up if no one is ever going to pass it to him. It also clogs up the lane for any guards to drive to the hoop
