We owe Marquette an a** whoopin

Any school that voted against the TV contract AKA all the bball schools need an ass whooping for the last 2 years we're here. em.

Been looking forward to this Saturday's game for a while. Long overdue payback that comes on a Saturday afternoon homegame... it's going to be rowdy. I really hope to get a Stevensen-esque send-off to my tailgate session in preparation.

One question: Are the students back yet?

If Marquette doesn't come out of the gate on fire, I could see this turning into Seton Hall, Part Deux.

They hurt us big time last year... It's payback time... Crowd and players need to bring it big time...

Yes they do.

Agreed! And thats not out of dislike for Marquette its just payback plain and simple and I think we saw that the guys were motivated to pay the Hall back and will be morso with Marq.

We need to hit the Def boards hard. This is where they have hurt SU in the past. 2nd chance points.

The sad thing is, you cant really claim an early regular big east season win over a team as "revenge" for them knocking you out of the ing NCAA tourney last year. These are not equivalent games. Our revenge must wait my friends.

Generally agree, but it still will be nice to get the W and pour some more salt on their wounds after blowing a 17 point lead last night against G'town.

We won't be facing them in the NCAA Tournament this year. The next time we do - if we do - these players will have long since moved on. There might even be different head coaches by then.

I think this game will be a lot closer than people want to believe. Marq seems to me to be a lot like Florida (minus a Patrick Young-type big man). They have three players that can all hit from deep (Crowder, Odom and Mayo) and Im guessing they will all be on the court together for extended minutes. Also, when they played Wisconsin, they put a freshman (Derrick Wilson) on Jordan Taylor and he actually did a decent job of limiting his opportunities. Im expecting both Wilson and Mayo to take turns guarding Waiters - two players that are built much like him. The only real advantage we have is inside with Fab. OTule may be hurt but Gardner isnt a huge drop-off in talent. We just have to get him in foul trouble because they have no one behind Gardner.

one of my knocks on JB's coaching style is that for the 30 years i've watched him he never really goes after a player who's in foul trouble. lesser talented teams have done it to us forever and is the primary reason i believe cuse first developed the zone. since we played so thin we had to hide marquis players in foul trouble. we'd play man d and as soon as coleman or who ever picked up thei 4th we'd go zone.
now with our depth foul trouble shouldn't be an issue and yet last night with baye missing and lousy calls there it was again. providence's front line was paper thin.they all play 35+. and yet we're hiding rak and fab. and they were after fab like sharks when they smelled 5.

They have no height at all; Gardner is 6'8". While being a pretty skilled post player, he brings absolutely nothing to the table defensively.

That's why they need an immediate beating.
No one should EVER let G-town off the hook!
CRUSH them...DESTROY them...FINISH them!
As badly as we want to beat Marquette...the feeling is nothing compared to
the POUNDING that must occur on February 8th when G-town will get a major Doming.

MU usually has fast guards. Keita instead of Rak (no knock on Rak) would be a nice addition.
Not having Keita last year was pretty big also. I don't think some people realize he was a big help in our offensive rebounding department with Fair last year. His lateral sliding will be a big help against Marquette. Is Keita expected to be ready?

True...but as a 'never-has-been head-coach' with exactly zero wins under my belt (and zero losses ;)), Im going to try to contain two Syracuse players (because no team can guard them all). So, if Im Marq, I use my two biggest guards (Todd Mayo and Derrick Wilson) to take turns guarding Waiters. He's the first Cuse player I would want to limit and Wilson did a good job on Jordan Taylor in a hostile environment. The other player I would try to limit is Triche and I'd put DJO on him. DJO doesnt play great defense but he is more athletic. By trying to eliminate Waiters and Triche, Im hoping to put the burden on Scoop (and hope Bad Scoop shows up) and then take my chances on KJo (with Crowder guarding him). Crowder isnt nearly as good of a defender as Jimmy Butler was but you have to make due with what you have. So, essentially, I want Scoop, KJo, Fair and Fab to beat my team. It aint easy but I think you have to role the dice on this year's Cuse team and focus on a few players and hope the rest dont beat you.

We need to punch these guys in the mouth right from the get go. They are a physically and mentally tough team. If they get the early lead it damps down the crowd. The key guy to put the clamps on is Johnson-Odom. Need to shut him down just like Wood on NC State. Stay on top of him and don't let him shoot. He killed us last year.

So, it sounds like we have a good chance of beating MU then :). And don't forget that JS may get hot since he will be more open for shots with the defense focusing on the Waiters and Triche.
