Just wait and see. We will click at the right time.

Sorry had to infuse some optimism into this board. :noidea:

Lost a bunch of really good players last year. Turbulent times were expected, especially coming from the mouth of JB.

We won't have a crazy run like last year, but we can still have some fun with it.

We're all spoiled lately and need to quickly temper our expectations.

SUball

This team has talent. This was just one of those games where nothing went right until it was absolutely necessary. Would love a 40 minute effort, but that is hard to expect with young teams. Plus Ennis was awful in the 1st half.

JB won't offer much of an explanation but I'd love to know why he didn't start the press earlier. It's nice to win these gut check games but I much prefer the blowouts.

Stranger things have happened. My hope is the kids get a chance to build some chemistry and loosen up out there. Right now the guards are tentative and our 2nd best frontcourt player is too tense and laying a lotta masonry.

Finally these early so called cupcakes are full of players working hard on the fundamentals and playing gimmicky schemes because they are overmatched. As a young team these guys get impatient guarding for 35 seconds and then look for the jumpshot too quickly on offense. In maui we should see more up and down play with more opportunities to attack and get in rhythm

I think we can have a deep run in the NCAA's. Other than a few powerhouse teams at the top, we'll likely be as good or better than most teams out there. And we won't face those top teams possibly until the elite 8. With Ennis being only a frosh and MG not having played very much the past 2 years, I think we have a very nice upside.

says whom?

Could pull up some threads at the end of the regular season last year proclaiming that we would be one and done tournament in both tournaments. Some were saying that maybe we could win one game in the NCAA. I agree that this probably isn't a Final Four team, but never say never.

I'm sure most of our forum posters work like well oiled machines before their trips to tropical islands. And what's the deal with Coleman? Shaky potatoes,

Rocco, this is a somewhat positive thread, although I disagree in that I think we could have a big run. But my point is, how'd you sneak a positive thread on this forum? Finding this was like sifting through garbage, but I found it!

The real challenges begin next week. If we can play against much better competition and win, a lot of the criticisms will go away. That is of course, that our players are equipped with horse blinders while in Maui. ;)

He said that "our press isn't very good." Mike Waters asked him the question.

I hope we do have a good run, but I am beginning to temper my expectations now. That way, a deep run with lowered expectations is that much more exciting and enjoyable!

Gonzaga will eat us alive if we play like we did last night.

Yeah, that was disappointing. The thought process probably was St. Francis was too focused on running the clock down and they weren't getting good looks.

We definitely can have a deep run in the tournament, it's a single elimination, anything can happen. (And it's way too early to say we won't be a high seed anyway). But that also means we could go out the first weekend.

This team is exactly where they should be at this point in time. They showed some real grit vs. St. Francis and I was very happy at the manner in which they retained their composure. That is the mark of a good team. Jimmy B. sets the tone by projecting calm and he knows how to give his players enough rope to make mistakes and then he utilizes the mistakes as teaching opportunities.

As fans a lot of people have the propensity to over react and put too much emphasis on momentary snap shots of the teams performance. There are situations where losses can manifest positive changes in a team. If teams aren't involved in close games they remain untested for games in the future which certainly will be tightly contested.

You can sometimes utilize things you learn from a team playing when behind that you wouldn't ordinarily have the opportunity discern. The season is a long proposition and the important thing as a team moves forward throughout the season is, "Are they improving and getting better both as individual players and as a team unit". There were times last season where things didn't really look too good for them as they approached the tournament.. and, well they came together, especially defensively in a fashion that few could have predicted. This team will have it's own unique developmental trajectory and I'm confident they will be seen as a very good team when the season is over.

as usual, he's right . . . better to stick with the tried & true

And _______ will eat #1 MSU alive if they play like they did the other night

What's that have do with anything? That's irrelevant. This thread is specifically about the Maui tournament, which Gonzaga is playing in. If you want to argue the merits of Gonzaga taking SU down if SU has a similar game as last night, then fine, but don't throw around arguments that have nothing to do with Syracuse.
