IPF Held Hostage, Day 365: SU Hopeful Construction on New IPF Will Start in a Few Weeks (PS; Mink)
Syracuse University is hopeful construction on its new football indoor practice facility will start soon.
"We're still a few weeks away," said Joe Giansante, chief of communications for the SU athletic department. "We're hoping to get started as soon as possible."
Syracuse was hoping to have construction underway sooner but various permitting, code and land use issues needed to be resolved. Giansante characterized those as "little details."
The target date for completion, recently said to be by the time fall practice convenes, remains.
"Once it starts, it's going to go up really quickly," Giansante said. "You'll be shocked."...

SU AD Daryl Gross Prefers Two ACC Scheduling Options (PS; Carlson)
Does the Syracuse football program prefer an eight- or a nine-game ACC schedule?
Sounds like a simple question. The Syracuse's athletic director's answer is complicated.
With the conference's football schedule up for its seemingly annual debate during spring meetings in two weeks, one of the most hotly-contested subjects is sure to come up.
The debate among the general public focuses largely on whether the ACC should play eight or nine conference games each season. ESPN's recent survey indicated that at least half of the conference's athletic directors are in favor of a nine-game league schedule. The report intimated that Syracuse athletic director Daryl Gross is included on that side.
Syracuse chief of communications Joe Giansante said that Gross likes both an eight- and nine-game model, and his preference is more nuanced than spewing out a simple number...
Report Says SU AD Daryl Gross Supports ACC 9 Game Conference Schedule (PS; Carlson)
Daryl Gross may soon get his way.
A report by ESPN's Heather Dinich indicated that at least half of the ACC's athletic directors are in favor of expanding the league's conference schedule to nine games. The topic is expected to be discussed during the league's spring meetings in Amelia Island, Fla., in two weeks. It is not necessarily scheduled for a vote.
Dinich's report noted that half of the ACC's 14 athletic directors are in favor of a nine-game schedule. Three others prefer eight games (Duke, Clemson and Florida State), three declined to state a preference (Boston College, Virginia Tech, North Carolina) and Louisville AD Tom Jurich stated he was simply happy to be part of the conference.
That leaves Syracuse and Gross, who has previously refrained from offering his opinion in public, on the side of a nine-game schedule...

Don't Buy Your Plane Tickets to Nashville Just Yet: SU Says No Formal Discussions Taking Place with Vanderbilt Regarding an Upcoming Series (PS; Mink)
Scheduling aficionados' ears perked up recently over a report in the Tennessean that stated Vanderbilt athletic director David Williams had spoken with an athletic rep from Syracuse in the past week about a potential future matchup.
But Syracuse, which recently announced a major scheduling coup with another SEC school, extinguished such speculation for now.
Joe Giansante, the chief of communications for the SU athletic department, said Tuesday that there are no formal discussions taking place with Vanderbilt about a future series.
Syracuse and Vanderbilt last met in 1990-91, with Syracuse winning both games...
Talk of Vanderbilt Series Premature (TNIAAM; Keeley)
With an SEC school already on the docket in the coming seasons, a lot of ears perked up Tuesday when Vanderbilt Commodores AD David Williams told USA Today that he had a chat with DOCTOR Daryl Gross about possibly starting up a series between the Syracuse Orange and the Commodores.

Keon Lyn (8)
SU DB Keon Lyn Happy With His Pro Day (PS; Mink)
Former cornerback Keon Lyn worked out for about 30 minutes in front of a couple of NFL personnel on Monday afternoon at Manley Field House, running the 40-yard dash and participating in position drills.
The Indianapolis Colts attended the workout, and a videographer recorded the activity to send to interested NFL teams, Lyn said.
Lyn, who participated in only the bench press during Syracuse's pro day last month because of injury, said scouts wanted to see his explosiveness out of his 40 and judge his movements in drills. He did not say what he ran in the 40.
"They know I'm not at 100 percent strength yet," Lyn said. "They wanted to see the fast moves and twitches.
"I was happy with how I did, and I got good feedback from coaches."...
