To me, it's dated. It's gone from classic to throwback at this point. The helmet is boring. Does any other school except PedU still use the solid color/stripe combo anymore? I don't want to be the one school that copies them at anything they do.
It did occur to me after posting that OSU still uses that old design as well.
This is the brand of SU Football.
It's "dated" in the sense that Alabama's uniform is dated or Auburn's uniform is dated or USC or Penn State or Oklahoma's uniforms are dated.
The use of the all white look or the all gray look or some bizzare combination of colors has now become in my mind hackneyed - too many teams do it - there is nothing unique about it anymore - it offers no brand.
And it cheats the real fans of the program.
If I had attended the Ohio State - Penn State game last week and had been a huge Buckeye fan who had never before been to Ohio Stadium, I would have been ticked that I was prevented from seeing the great scarlet and gray Ohio State uniform, with the classic silver helmets and Buckeye decals.
Brand, brand, brand!
