Some of my key memories from this season:
-Brandon Plavitch putting on a surreal shooting performance the day before Thanksgiving
-Attending the St. Bona game in Rochester
-Fantastic win against MSU in the Dome where Ronneil Herron came off the bench cold to hit two technical free throws
-Billy Edelin at his best at Missouri and Notre Dame
-Unlucky blue uniforms at home vs. ND
-"Gerry Mac drops one on Gtown!!"
-Giving Pitt it's first ever loss at the Pete
-Jeremy McNeil lost his mother before senior day vs. UConn and the entire team escorted him out, very special moment.
-Extremely annoying BET loss vs BC
-Insane Gerry performance vs. BYU

The Pitt game(even though it showed everything that was wrong with CBB) was the highlight of that season. Gerry was pretty terrible the entire game, but hit a big shot and free throws late.

Weird season. We were a legit national title contender that could score for half the season, with Edelin. McNamara was efficient.

Then the Edelin drama started, and soon he was gone and for awhile we stunk. McNamara couldn’t get a good look. Couldn’t score, couldn’t win.

Then we morphed into a grind it out, defense first team that won games in the 50s and 60s, - or 40s in the case of Pitt. Wasn’t pretty but we had some great wins down the stretch and made the sweet 16.

The UConn game at the end of the season was a lot of fun, as Craig Forth was scoring on Okafor.

I remember getting to that Pitt game like 3 hours before tip just go get a front row seat in the student section and we completely bombed that game and got destroyed in the dome. I really thought we were going to face UConn to go to the FF, but Alabama killed us from 3 in the Sweet 16.

That Pitt game was one of the most miserable Dome games I’ve ever been to. Just..nothing happened. We couldn’t do anything. Even in our worst games we usually at least made a run at some point. That game we just got the crap kicked out of us at home in boring fashion.

I was so demoralized after watching Pitt annihilate is at the Dome that I thought we had no shot of winning at the Pete. And I always think we have SOME chance of getting a W.

So yeah that proved inaccurate.

The last of the short seasons. And the last of Boeheim scheduling good non-conference opponents during conference season (if you don't count Memphis in '09/'10, which I definitely don't).

Edelin was so good against Michigan State and a few of those cupcakes.

Boston College killed our seed/region. I think we could've played at the Meadowlands, maybe Verizon Center, but instead got shipped to Phoenix. Funny thing is, that BC team had veterans who put together a nice season the next year, but in '04 we beat them by 20 over Christmas at the Dome and I never got the sense they should hang with us in the quarterfinal. That was so frustrating. I stepped out of a previously-scheduled meeting with my thesis advisor, saw the last 30 seconds or so on TV. Still not sure what happened.
