I was courtside and I must say watching GMac, Hop, Red and the boys was fun as hell. I have felt bad about Cooney, mainly because of my own expectations of him making a bigger splash last year. He has finally emerged as another go-to on this team. I realize that we played Cornell, but TC was awesome. He had some mojo after a few early misses and was simply electric after that. I am about to lay down and I still have the "Coooooooooooney" chant ringing in my ears. I really, really hope he can continue to step up this year like Andy Rautins did a few years back. This team needs some leadership and TC showed that he's capable tonight.

I hope we get to hear a lot of "Cooooooooooooooooooney" this year.

S H A K E Y P O T A T O E S ! ! !

White hot dropping starch in the net. I might have to up it to 40% and 100 made 3pt FG to make it fair for Mike.

Some great sceens late with him sitting inbetween Hop and Gerry. You could just see how happy they were for him.
Did anyone catch GMac and BJ after the bank in three? He asked BJ, huge smile and BJ said something in response with an ear to ear smile of his own.

I was/am still expecting him to end up around 33% 3FG% (see my comments in the other thread - I may be sending DNABB5 a nice case of 2014 PBR) but there were two things that stood out to me that I didn't expect to see against even a team like Cornell:

1) The confidence in his deep three to drill in someone's face. That's a confidence shot. That's a scorer's shot.
2) The curl, catch and shoot. He was working his a$$ off making cuts through the lane. It looks like his strength is allowing him to bust through and get set for that pass coming off a curl. IF, and I know it is a HUGE if at this point, he can hit THAT shot consistently, lookout. That means that someone on the other team has to chase him around all game.

Hope he keeps this up. I think he'll get better at his position on the perimeter when the ball goes in to the post as well. Guys like CJ, Grant, and Rak should be able to make that kick out pass if they get doubled or pushed out of position.

Can't wait. Love this time of year.

He deserved that one after stepping out of bounds right before drilling one earlier in the game.

I'm officially on the Cooney bandwagon with my seatbelt strapped ready to enjoy the ride. It was good to see him step up and knock down bomb after bomb after bomb. Obviously he's not going to shoot like that every game, but as others mentioned if he could just give us some Rautins like consistency throughout the year moving forward then we'll be very difficult to beat.

Everything, because my comment was bigger and more athletic...I never said better.

I wasn't thinking you meant better, they just have totally different games, and part of his problem last year were people unfairly comparing him to GMAC. We should all be happy if he can compare to Marius Janulius

I can live with that...he is better defensively than either of them.

No chance Cooney ends up at or below 33% from 3 this year, none. You need to buy out of that PBR bet ASAP.

Really? Did Gerry dunk?

Does high school count? A little over a minute into this 41 point first half highlight reel he does(reminds me of a Sherman to Stevie play, awesome). Any SU player should be honored to be compared to GMac, regardless of the reasons.

Well, I would say that a bigger, more athletic GMac would be better than the smaller, less athletic GMac. Either way, Cooney is bigger and athletic but he's not like GMac which is what the scouting report you referred to apparently said.

You are selling Cooney way too short.

GMac was amazing - and I don't think you can diminish what he did/has done for the program. But Cooney is WAY better than Janulis (no D, no game outside of 3-pt. shooting).

I have high hopes that he can be similar to Rautins minus a little bit of his ballhandling but without his propensity to turn it over on occasion.

That's exactly what Cooney did last game. He hit 7 threes, and had 1 other 1 dribble pull up, and another lay up from the baseline. Janulis was a very solid player from us, and we could really use a player like that this season. That's not a knock on Cooney at all.

The Rautins comparison I really don't see. Other then being a white guy, and the the shooting I don't see it. Rautins was excellent creating his own shot, and especially shots for others. Cooney still looks really uncomfortable when he has to dribble the ball more then a couple times when making a move. Let's just see how the rest of the season progresses, he just had a career game, it's a bit unfair for everyone to heap more unfair expectations onto him.

Some of you are selling Cooney way too short. He's most likely our second or third option on offense this year. Janulis was never that. Rautins was a great passer, but I don't recall him attacking the rim or creating his own shot much.

You're crazy and are having revisionist history about Janulis. Cooney is a much better overall player (ball handling, defending, rebounding) than Janulis was. And a much better athlete.

Who said anything about expectations? My only point was Janulis <<< Cooney at the same stage. Not even close to the caliber of player or the potential.
