Yes I'd say roberson would need a little work to get up to Owens freshman 13ppg average. Not a Joie Chitwood type stunt to pull off, so it's still possible.

I said last night the game would be close because of the way we were playing (and because St Francis turned the game into a rock fight) and that we were in trouble. All I said was the pace favored them and the game would be in the upper 50s/ low 60s. I was proven correct, as the team was on the ropes in crunch time.

I don't panic. I'm a realist. I said last night the game would be close because of the way we were playing (and because St Francis turned the game into a rock fight) and that we were in trouble. I also said we'd win the game (by 7--we won by 6). Just because not everyone is an eternal optimist, doesn't make them a panic case.

And tee: my Billy Owens comment was not directed as a slam at you at all. Some people on the board were saying Roberson was the equivalent of Billy Owens coming out of high school, and that comparison is ridiculous, since Billy Owens was a high school LEGEND. I hope he turns out as good as Billy and he certainly could. He's not there yet. Scouts look at him and see his obvious talent. I never doubted his talent, but watching him play for Syracuse, it's obvious that right now, Roberson is not ready for meaningful minutes in tough games. JB obviously agrees or TR would've seen the court with most of our bigs struggling last night.

We'll agree to disagree on whether I panic. Frankly, it's a matter of perception. I know who I am, I don't need to look in a mirror. I'm comfortable in who I am as a fan. I certainly don't need any affirmation from anyone about how I react to my various favorite teams' ups and downs. I do get nervous watching our games and I had a bad feeling in my gut watching that game last night because I knew the tempo was favoring the opposition in a big way. I expressed that angst on a message board that is designed to give one's reactions and opinions.

Just because I don't think everything is hunky dory with SU basketball all the time, doesn't make me a nervous wreck. Call it whatever you want. It won't change my passion and it won't change that I am opinionated and that sometimes I express what I'm feeling as I'm watching one of our games and I don't like what I see.

Oh, and I never said the sky is falling with this team. There are legit concerns; just ask our head coach or anyone with two eyes and some basic basketball knowledge.

I panic too when I watch a game like that. And you're right. It's a matter of perspective. Do whatever you feel like.

He's a bull in a china shop right now and IMO he's playing out of position on offense. He's basically playing Jerami's position as the forward flashing to the high post. That position requires patience and sound decision-making, two things TR lacks right now. He's getting the ball and he looks like he's trying to make something happen right away; usually he's been shooting a jump shot (and not making it). He should be playing the 4 in our system, at least this year. I've never debated the kid's talent; it's just that the comparisons to Billy Owens are lol ridiculous. I think Roberson is a star-in-the-making. He will not be a big contributor this year though.

I agree that this year, Roberson would be better suited to play the 4, but IMO, JB is thinking about next year. If things go as many of us expect, Grant and CJ will be gone. That will leave us McCullough & Roberson. In that combination, Roberson will be the 3. So, by giving him experience in that postion, JB is preparing him for what he needs Roberson to play.

Many people have accused JB of only thinking of the immediate needs, and maybe at times in the past, he could be found guilty of this. But, certainly in the past few years, at least, this is just not true. He has proven to be adept at predicting who will leave and when, and at least make an attempt to prepare the incumbent or find a replacement. It is an imperfect science. Some develop faster than expected, some slower.

Team defense is going to beat a bunch of five star one-and-done freshmen. The score in the picture says it all. And Michigan State doesn't even practice zone as their primary defense!

I think BB is a team sport. The Orange need to develop 2-3 zone team defense and just get better on their offensive sets. My hope is each player is spending hours practicing foul line shooting.

• the "continuous gratification" group who tolerate nothing less than 40 minutes of perfection every night from every player and undefeated seasons in which all games are blowouts beginning with 20-0 SU runs

Roberson is a work in progress. I think he will be playing for the Orange at least two years. He has to get to a point where he shows up on NBA mock drafts. He is just not part of the NBA conversation. He's played okay so far. He has lots of talent. But I think he's still in the mode of adjusting to the speed and nature of the college level game.
