We're only 5 mins into 1st EX game, and I already love Carlos

Yup. People were concerned with his height. Watching him live, his height doesn't even come into play. At least against a D2 school. Such a different look vs watching guys like Mintz and Copeland.

Plus, and I think this is a big plus, is that it makes JJ a much better player. JJ played like an upperclassmen on a mission.
i think people underestimate the internl politics and dominant personalities of last year's team

JJ wwas clearly deferential to "big dog" mintz and Q as well somewhat...to the team's detriment imo...it was all iso ball and 1 on 5 for the most part...pickup bball

on some level, im sure it was kinda understood last year was mintz's "time" to shine and showcase himself and JJ was ok with knowing hed be the lead player next year kinda thing

its really dumb but thats how american basketball works...very hierarchical///esp in the NBA

thing is, most players arent going to play well when their default is passive support role player...to really play well you need to have that domnant aggressive leader energy...the same player could literally perform much differently depending on role...so it becomes an nternal dominance competition within a team moreso than everyone playing to win together

hopefully now that the runway is cleared for JJ ...he will play freely and much better

Having a real point guard instead of someone concerned about himself first is a step in the right direction.

Obviously we have lots of insiders on this board, but recently heard how bad the personalities were from someone definitely in a position to know. The fact that this person even brought it up was surprising.

Definitely obvious on the court now that we see a team that is NOT like that. Hoping for a drama free season.

Q reminds me of a guy I used to work with. My take on him was he had obvious leadership skills, but used them for evil instead of good.

I had an employee like that once. If I could get her going in the right direction, the whole team would get moving. If she wasn't on board, or if somebody pissed her off, everybody would be backbiting in a heartbeat.

I spent huge amounts of energy just getting her head on right so she didn't burn the place down.

Yeah.

Yep.

You know exactly what I meant.

The Orange are lucky to have a couple of successful college point guards coaching the team.
When they say they love the way someone plays point...there's every reason to believe them.

The team has a strong point guard this season.
He showed it.
That alone could make this season fun.

Plus (as someone mentioned) Carlos was coached by an excellent point guard at Hofstra in Speedy Claxton (and his college coach at Hofstra was Jay Wright).
And by the way...Claxton is on pace to be a very in demand coach.
He's won at least 20 games in each of his first 3 seasons.

I have a child like that which was rather frustrating until I realized that she is basically me.

He went for 10 points and 9 assists against Duke, with 3 turnovers.

It looks like a pretty good game, but Hofstra lost in a blowout, so it's hard to get a read on how meaningful the stats were.

Roach went for 19 and 8 without a turnover, so in as much as that was a head to head contest, Roach performed better.

It's great that Carlos dominated a D2 program yesterday, but we would be appalled if he didn't.
I don't know that he would be expected to win the match up, just holding his own hopefully showed that he ɓelongs and bodes well for this year.

Making a miniature version of yourself really hits home how annoying you can be.

I did it myself.

True... If Carlos is 75% of Roach, we will be really happy.

Didn't Roach get $2 million in NIL this year? 75% of the effectiveness at 10% of the cost? That's Billy Bean territory.

Tyler Ennis with John Gillon height = James Thues.
james thues pressed into duty for us after playing just 185 minutes as a frosh gave us 31 mpg while starting just 18. 178/80 asst/to ratio . shot 30%deep and had 101 steals. tied with jason hart and second only to MCW 109. dude filled in nicely before transferring. enuf shade.

I guess if he’s Gillon’s height,
there’s not all that much shade. :p

A true point guard who defends.

Finally.
If he keeps this up I may have to change my avatar to this…
