Feb. 25 will be a big day at UConn. The men's basketball team will host Syracuse with the ESPN GameDay crew in tow. It's also Junior Day, an unofficial visit when a general pool of players the football program likes, and their parents, will be on campus.

I believe we haven't scheduled a Jr. Day during basketball season, which many, myself included, can't believe. We SHOULD take advantage of the basketball program and the big crowds at the dome. I think someone said it's scheduled for the spring game. Need confirmation on that.

It's scheduled for the spring game. And in the past we had it during the Nova game.

If it's not scheduled for a February basketball game it would be the first time to my knowledge that a junior day has not been schedule for a basketball home game. I've never heard of this before.

If true that junior day is scheduled for the spring game this might be a nice approach. It sure is new/different whether it works or not remains to be seen.

It might be tough to get certain kids here if (when) our spring game conflicts with other team's spring games.

It's stupid to not have it for a basketball game. They're our best recruiting tool outside of academics.

Why wouldnt you schedule it for a home basketball game? Especially when you are talking about the #2 team in the country. For all the marketing we do off campus you would think they would know how to market the university to recruits on campus. Serioulsy the spring game? We want to get better recruits the first step is getting in the door. The second is getting them to take a look at the University. What would you rather do? Watch SU bball or watch a lousy spring game. I hope this isnt true

My initial reaction was that it was stupid but when I think about pros and cons it might not be a stupid idea. And maybe thinking outside of the box with a new approach is a good thing.

February weather could be 10 degrees and blinding snow storm. April weather is bound to be decent and may ultimately attrack more kids. I'd hate to be giving prospects a tour of campus when it's biting cold and snowing. In addition, kids/families will be immersed in the football program because the team is actually practicing etc.

The only thing they miss with a basketball game is the crowd atmosphere of the hoop game. It's a nice perk for visiting kids/families but at the end of the day spring time might be a better overall experience, and might end up drawing more kids because traveling and weather won't be a concern.

I hope this isn't true. Syracuse should be the first to hold their Junior Day. The worst possible thing that could happen is a high school junior from the northeast to go to BC, UConn, RU, PSU, and Maryland before Syracuse. All of those places have much better facilities than SU and really facilities are one of the focal points of a Junior Day visit.

It could be 38 and snowing in February in Syracuse and 38 and snowing in April.

It would be one thing if we drew big crowds for the spring game. We don't. It's empty and cold in the dome.

I would like the hear the reasoning behind this.

Maybe some if the renovation work will be done by then... or at least they'll be able to show that they're in the process of being done

would be nice if the hoops team could pound them and get their fans in a bitchy / complaining mood

Eh, it really doesn't bother me much at all. I do not recall a prospect committing here due to the atmosphere at a hoops game in a while, if ever to be honest. We are recruiting against those schools every year, kids are going to see the facilities at other schools regardless.

It gives us better weather, which I do recall as being the reason for a handful of recruits deciding NOT to come here. It highlights the fb program, gives us a little more time to progress in the facility changes that are about to begin, so at least we have the framework to show them.

Honestly, it's not like we've been lighting it up on the recruiting front with traditional dates anyway.

Agree, also the later they wait, the construction at Manley will be underway a bit more as well and sell the new renovations. Hopefully, they are bringing in kids they have already have some relationships with. I think this years camp will be huge for this class
