Wes Johnson, Gbinije, AW, Gillon, Hughes

There's reason to believe. However, most of those guys sat for a year and learned the SU system, which made them ready to contribute when they could play. Integrating a bunch of new players into a zone that everyone says is exceedingly tough to learn, is concerning.

And people didn't want Gillon playing because his zone defense was "current starting guard"-esque.

He may be able to pull 1 All ACC caliber player, the problem is filling the roster with quality depth. If Quincy doesn’t return we are very shorthanded. Unfortunately, we have also lost our best athletes.

Well to be honest Boeheim is gonna have to pull something here. Braswell was a hit but not a huge hit, Kadary is a big loss. Adding Boeheim Jr which is going to happen...isn’t going to excite people. Then you add in the fact Boeheim has crazy loyalty to his son obviously and Joe for whatever reason...how many guards do you think are gonna want to transfer here if Kadary was having a difficult time getting minutes over Joe...it’s going to be a tough sell. I feel good about a core of Buddy, Benny and Quincy but we are going to seriously need to upgrade the 3rd guard position mainly because we have literally no one right now and it’s going to be tough. We also need a better starting point guard but we know how that’s gonna go...really hope Edwards and Frank take big strides this off season.

We know Boeheim Jr is coming but we are going to NEED 2 more BIG splashes as transfers to feel good about this team. One being a guard and one being a versatile forward in my opinion. One that can play the 3 or 4 and 5 in a pinch.

hey guys...come in and transfer to my team.

its my two sons and this other guard that I won’t bench or criticize in public.

when the defense breaks down, i will be blaming you in public and saying they did a great job

also when you play well, I’ll say you still aren’t ready.

so...who wants to sign up?

Considering the current trend of posts and the title, I thought they were entering the portal and SU hadc fair chance of getting them.

3 out of 5 of the guys you mentioned redshirted for a year.

The other two were grad transfers that led us to an early exit in the NIT.
Had they had the opportunity for immediate eligibility, Hughes and Wes would have contributed right away.

4 of the 5 made it to the NBA.

Again, Wes, G and Hughes all had the benefit of redshirting and learning the system. You can't throw a hypothetical and pass it off as fact. It didn't happen.

Our track record with transfers playing immediately hasn't been tremendous. AW and Gillon were serviceable, but they only led us to one win in the NIT. Geno Thorpe??

AG was up and down all year and went completely AWOL in March.

Andrew White and John Gillon both gave us double digit scorers who shot above 40% from 3. I think some on the board would sell their soul for that right now. AG i’ll give you.

Just trying to be optimistic here. There’s plenty of things to be negative about, don’t think acknowledging relatively recent successful transfer acquisitions should be one of them

Can't compare anymore, rules have made this a whole new ball game. Kids are going to want to move to get playing time, not sit. No guard will come here knowing full well who is getting the minutes.

And the NIT that year was their fault? Or, did they help us beat some very good teams and help us avert a losing season. Let's be fair. And that post, isn't.
Not sure what you mean by "fair". AW and Gillon led us to a second round loss in the NIT. That's what they did. It's not an opinion, it's a fact.

If we started Gillon earlier in the year we make the tournament. Frank was awful and when he FINALLY made the change we started winning. Too late though.

You forgot buss Patterson and geno Thorpe.
I would like to be optimistic given our circumstances but it would have been easier to keep our own. Guess that is out the window now.
