Three ACC games in a row tonight (NC State, UNC and ND)... then tomorrow begins with two ACC games (UVA and Duke) and ends with another one (Lville).

Pretty nice neighborhood in which we hang out. And next year, we'll be off the porch.

Syracuse fans better like it... they may see a lot of it next week.

Still early but Nova going down, creates a possibility for 3 ACC Teams in Syracuse - NC St, Virginia, Louisville. I just noticed this,

While the "conference mates" can't meet until the elite 8 rule no longer exists, it has remained a preference that they have always followed when a conference has less than 8 teams.

I'm fine watching NC St. & Virginia play in the dome next weekend, but I'm rooting for Northern Iowa to kick the crap out of Louisville, and make some noise in Syracuse.

Glad I'm not going.

I appreciate the competitiveness of the conference.

I've grown to absolutely loathe everything North Carolina except Wake.

I've always, and will continue to dislike G Tech to an unhealthy extent.

Makes you wonder how good our profile might have actually been this year.

This SU team would probably have been looking at a 6 seed or better if they played in the BE or the Merikan. (And, of course, a couple other things didn't happen;))

C'mon, everybody knows the Big 12 is by far the best conference this year.....oh, wait.....

Pretty painful performance by that conference...hurts like a Marcus Smart punch to the groin.

I love how Smart feigns like he got punched in the face pre-nutpunch - as if television cameras or replay doesn't exist...

Maybe I'm just a downer but I never cared about how the conference did. I wanted Pitt, Grown, and uconn to loss as early as possible when we were in the big East, and I couldn't care less what teams in the ACC do. Unless we get to hang a banner for having the "best conference."

Agree 100%. I never understood it. Those teams are our rivals. I don't root for my rivals. I'm a Miami Dolphins fan, I was supposed to root for the patriots in super bowl cuz they're in my teams division? The last team I'll root for is duke.

I am definitely a conference loyalists. I am a Yankee fan that roots for the Sox when they are in the series.

I have not developed strong loyalty to the ACC yet. I still find myself rooting for old Big East schools.

I think the counter-argument has always been that the conference you are in helps you - the perception that your conference is strong could mean an extra line in the bracket. In the tourney, probably less important, but it gives you some room to argue with people at work.

If you're arguing with some clown that's a fan of some team from the Big 12, you can say that we were probably better than their second best team in their conference. Look at the ACC, we're 9-0 in the tourney - we finished one game behind NC State...and they took out a 1 seed! You're three seeds both lost to 14 seeds in the first round - suck it KU fan. Overrated.

You don't even have to believe it - but you get to say it!

you think Kansas fans care right now that Iowa State lost?

Specifically about Iowa State - no. Maybe they'll care when I tell them they're overrated losers after they bow out of the tourney today. :)

It was just an example...pick whatever team you like. I don't know - I lived all over the place, argue with people all the time about the relative strength of conferences, etc...maybe some don't. What do I know.

In professional sports, conference and division success doesn't matter. In college it's much more important. There are 340 college teams, it's impossible to rate them all accurately based on their own individual performance. Conference success becomes a very easy shortcut to forming an opinion about a team. If you go .500 in conference, but your conference is awesome, you get the benefit of the doubt. If you go .500 in the Merikan, then you don't.

I root for whatever helps SU, and the ACC doing well definitely helps SU.

Now that I live in SEC country, college conference loyalty is that much more imperative. When you hear SEC SEC SEC all the time, and yes they do it in CBB too, you realize that beyond the extra money, recruiting help and perceived strength you get from being in a baller conference, you also need to shut up the SEC fans.

Also this argument is a lot easier for the anti-ACC contingent in basketball where we are the premier conference. In OOC, bowl games and Playoff do ya'll seriously not root for the ACC? It's one thing to be meh about it when our conference owns CBB, it's another in CFB when we're in a dogfight with the Pac and B1G to try and take that second spot behind the SEC.

that's the thing. Rooting for conference reminds me too much of bags who chant SEC because they're Kentucky/Mississippi/Missouri fans who are condemned to watching their team get curb stomped by Alabama and LSU.

Fans of elite programs should be better than that.

Alabama fans chant SEC just as much, if not more than anyone else in the SEC.

Doesn't it at a minimum mean more money for us? More NCAA wins means greater NCAA shares to split amongst our conference bretheren, or doesn't it work that way in the ACC?
