What a conference...

Maybe I'm just a downer but I never cared about how the conference did. I wanted Pitt, Grown, and uconn to loss as early as possible when we were in the big East, and I couldn't care less what teams in the ACC do. Unless we get to hang a banner for having the "best conference."

I'm a downer but for different reasons. It's a single elimination tournament. I wasn't one who hung my head and said "man as it turns out we suck" when the Big East flopped outside of Uconn in '11. It was a great conference that got super unlucky and lost every close game that was at the mercy of a shot or whistle. So I'm certainly not going to stick my chest out now and laugh at the Big12. Also UNC got a laughably easy draw.

Right. I get what you're saying. So a handful of games that are decided by one or two possessions are better arbiter than a four month season? Not very likely.

Yeah. I mean UNC, L'ville, ND & NCst all barely escaped round 1 and they weren't even playing sneaky good teams. If any of them actually played a team that was better than their seed like a Stephen . Austin or someone they'd have been out.

Example. SportsCenter just had a segment on the ACC where Bilas and Pearl talked about how, with the additions of Cuse, Ville, ND and Pitt, the ACC has the ability to now become the SEC Football equivalent in CBB.

I'm not a marketing guru but I'm pretty sure the SEC has made a lot of money off the hype that conference generates in CFB. Wouldn't be a bad thing to have that on the basketball side in the ACC.

People were actually rooting for NC State over Nova. Had anyone here interacted with a wolf pack fan? They're uconn fans with les winning and more racism.

Their board is a cess pool. It's disgraceful, really.

I am definitely a conference loyalists. I am a Yankee fan that roots for the Sox when they are in the series.

I have never heard of such a thing. As a St. Louis Cardinal fan (grew up there), I could never imagine doing anything but rooting against the arch rival cubs. This is my mantra for baseball:

I always root for my two favorite clubs,
The St. Louis Cardinals and whoever plays the cubs.

When I see someone in cubs garb around the city, though, I do try to make them feel better about their team. I usually say, "Don't feel bad, anyone can have a bad century." That always soothes their feelings. If that doesn't work, I will politely point out that the last time their team won a World Series, the Titanic had not yet sunk.

I would consider any Redbird fan who rooted for the cubs in any way to be a turncoat.

But, hey, whatever works for you. ;)

Personally, I find myself rooting for our current conference brethren. However, I understand those who choose to root for our former conference mates. Except Georgetown, of course, that would be sacrilege.

I'm a conference rooter. How your conference rivals do in the tournament is a direct reflection of the level you play at. Also, I have no control over it, midway through the 2nd half of the NC St/Nova game I was screaming for the Pack when suddenly I realized... Hey, I'm actually rooting for an ACC team over a BE team. Strange..

Funny that you ask. The salesman who sold me a great shirt at the Vineyard Vines store yesterday... is a passionate NC State grad/fan. Really nice guy, one of my favorite salespeople... and I didn't know he was Wolfpack fan until we started discussing the tourney yesterday morning.

It's a good thing life isn't played out on "what if" scenarios.

I guess there's hope after all :)

I appreciate the competitiveness of the conference. I've grown to absolutely loathe everything North Carolina except Wake. I've always, and will continue to dislike G Tech to an unhealthy extent.

Must not follow football. Wakes coach is a turd.

I think we knew it would be a league that would be dominant at the top.

But this is a conference that 10 years or ago less had Wake Forest, Georgia Tech and Clemson all as solid programs. Add in Pitt getting a little better again. Miami and NC St sustaining their current levels.

It's a conference that right now is scary at the top. But I would love to see it be the deepest conference in America as well.

This year Cubs fans are going to erase 100 years of suffering

Huh? That's a new one! :)
Yeah, it is amazing that someone can be a fan without completely succumbing to irrational meathead thinking.

Two Questions:

1. Since Syracuse isn't in the NCAA Tournament: do they get a piece of the NCAA revenue generated by the other ACC teams?
2. Since Syracuse is banned and fined and all that - does that change the answer to #1 for this year?

Probably nothing which inspired the board of directors to have a meeting.

I believe the answer to #1 is yes all conference members get a share.
I am unsure about the answer to #2 but think the fines from previous appearances and the ban from appearing is it. I don't think we lose are shares for this season as nothing was done wrong this season.

All about the $$$, more conference teams doing well = more money for Cuse.

Could you imagine an all-ACC Final 4 this year? It's still possible!

Here is the reason to root for the other ACC Tournament Teams - share and share alike in most years (not sure how our ban impacts that)

ACC will make over $28 million on Tourney
ESPN by Darren Rovell

An incredible run in the NCAA tournament by ACC teams will result in more than $28 million going back to the conference over the next six years.
The conference is 11-1 in the tournament, making up five -- Notre Dame, Louisville, North Carolina State, North Carolina and Duke -- of the Sweet 16 teams.
The lone loss was Virginia, which lost to Michigan State on Sunday.

The NCAA pays conferences for the performances of their teams in a tournament over a six-year time period beginning in the following year. Teams earn a unit per game played with the exception of the championship game, which is not included.

Next year's units are worth $260,525 each and will increase in value over the next five years they are collected through 2021. That means each game played in this year's tournament is worth at least $1.56 million.

The five ACC teams in the Sweet 16 have already played in 12 games for 12 units. They're guaranteed another six for playing their Sweet 16 games, adding in the fact that Louisville playing NC State means that one has to win and get a unit for an Elite Eight game.

The old Big East earned the most units in a single tournament in 2009 when it finished with 24 total units. That year, five of its teams played in the Sweet 16, four advanced to the Elite Eight and two to the Final Four.

The ACC, which splits its units equally among conference members, has a chance to reach 26 units in this tournament based on how the bracket breaks down. That would not only result in the ACC being the first conference to earn more than $30 million off one tournament, it will also surpass $40 million.

The NCAA's basketball fund was started in 1991 as a way to split the tournament television money, which at the time was worth $143 million a year. The average annual value of the TV rights for this year, as a result of a 14-year, $10.8 billion deal signed with CBS and Turner in 2011, is $771 million.

Yes I like for the ACC teams to do well for this reason. But as far as bragging about best conference, that really doesn't mean as much to me as it used to. It doesn't seem like people really remember one year to the next how each conference did in the previous year's tournament but I could be totally wrong about that.
