I'm starting this post approaching half-time vs. Colgate, about 5 minutes left. Cuse leads only by 2.

JJ Starling with just a terrible half so far, gave up 3 or 4 easy buckets, 2 or 3 sloppy turnovers, started hot from the field but forced a couple shots.

Bell is invisible so far, but is playing some defense, has a couple rebounds.

Carlos has been very poor defensively. This kid only looks about 5-10. How could he have been all-league defensive team twice at Hofstra? I just don't see it.

Choppa Moore with a couple buckets and a couple forces. He can drive the ball. The dribble is a little high, but he's a rangy guy. If he can pass it some, and get more consistent with his shot, he'll get minutes.

We really need Cuffe to play well. We need another guy who can run the point. Eddie is solid, but makes mistakes. Gets offensive boards, but could convert at a better rate.

Donnie with some swag in his offensive game, had a block or two, a few rebounds, but is not quite at his best so far.

I think that this starting lineup is not working. Petar is too slow on defense in the middle, and needs to be paired with someone quicker, or maybe as the center in a smaller lineup.

What about Naheem??? For Chrissakes, he could shake things up inside, provide some rim protection. So many open shots for Colgate at the rim!

Davis needs to play more. Lucas Taylor has been OK. Wish he could handle the ball better.

Carlos single handedly let them back in the game in the second half. Lazy close out on a shooter who makes a three î
Horrible jumper on our end and then lazy play on a pick giving them another three. Liked him in exhibition but he can't play.

Halftime still (watching on tape). What I think Autry is trying to do is build chemistry by keeping Carlos and JJ on the floor so much when neither is playing well.

He's trying to build people's confidence by keeping them in there, but he's got to start pulling guys after 2 or 3 mistakes.

We need to make alot of adjustments . To start with, I’d get a bunch of new and better players .

I would then get a better coach. Other than that , we’re right there
Avant garde team construction. What would happen if you put 4 or 5 of the worst defensive players you could find. Anti defense

The starting lineup eventually is going to be Choppa and JJ in the backcourt. I wish he would play Naheem. It's way too early in the season to be playing such a short rotation. Sure, you want to build chemistry, but when you're struggling to get stops against another mid-major, you have to use that depth to require them to give more effort on defense. Eddie can't play this many minutes. He's too weak defensively. Davis needs more time.

My first change would be Davis for Freeman and Moore for Carlos. Donnie is clueless and Carlos is killing us on defense. Moore has no fear and his defense has already improved after four games. Take the pressure off of Donnie by bringing him off the bench. Davis is tough and can really get the ball off the boards. Donnie is just floating around looking to put up off balance jumpers. Two close games in a row and Freeman isn’t on the court down the stretch. Red doesn’t have confidence in him with his shot selection and his olay defense

IMO you can't move off of Freeman he is the only player with a chance to take us to the next level. Red has to do a better job of coaching/teaching and putting him in a better place to succeed.

Can't call Freeman out for defense because nobody on the team defends. Nobody rotates nobody plays team defense. So that can't be a reason you bench someone because you will lose the locker room especially when they watch the tape and see everyone sucks on defense and nobody is doing their job.

The problems on this team run way too deep for freeman to fix anything. We are terrible on D up top and combine that with no rim protection. The offense runs through Lampkin, but I don’t see how this will work against like for like talent.

I would love to see the roster Autry would have put together with legit nil bags.

Had momentum, comes down and takes a super quick shot. Then goes under a screen and has a TO. It was as bad of a 30 seconds as you can have.

It would be tremendously stupid to bail on Freeman after two games for a plethora of reasons.

He’s a bad player. He’s really really bad. Cox looked like ja morant out there compared to him. What kind of crap league was that he was in that he was a lock down defender . ? Huge miss by the staff

Geez, I hate to say this about players after the first couple weeks, but it's not looking promising so far. He has to be a lot better, or play fewer minutes and give other guys a shot, as simple as that.

David Patrick was better

Without reading the rest of the thread above your post, it leaves me to wonder which player everyone is talking about:

a. Carlos
b. JJ
c. Taylor
d. Cuffe
e. Westry

This is mean but I can't be the only person who took one look at him not even playing the game and said NOPE

He looks like a walkon

Come on, Steve. You can't give up on the season that quickly.

I think some things could be tweaked to get a few more wins than expected this year, but Red has to coach tougher. Without better talent, we need better discipline.

Almost everything has been discussed (especially on defense) already, but:

Freeman, Davis, Taylor need to be told you take wide-open threes only!!! Bad shot selection by bad 3 point shooters should be an instant hook like JB would do. There’s far too much of it in both games.

Shot selection in general. Guys taking poor quality shots, or trying to tip in when a rebound and put back is appropriate. Sit them.

we need to see some zone to see what it looks like. The one thing we have is length.

I agree Naheem should play a little, but remember just last week we were going over the insane number of errors he made during extended run in our second exhibition game. A lot of frustrating mistakes in rapid succession against a weak opponent. Makes sense the staff wanted to either keep Lampkin out there (who was easily the MVP in the Colgate game) or go small ball with Davis or Petar, even with the lack of rim protection. I think people still like the idea of McLeod, while ignoring the reality.

Yeah, but just come in and swat some shots. Goal tending is fine. Get in their heads. You don't see guys 7-4. It gets in your head. Use that. We have literally zero interior defense so far. I see no legitimate reason not to play him 5-10 minutes a game. Use the fouls, play zone, let him stand there in the middle and just bash people who try to drive to the rim.

Why is it that Carey gets 16 points tonight and McClead doesn't progress

Maybe Carey is playing a level appropriate for his skill set now?
