Going by this year's schedule, for an 8-game conference schedule and a mandatory 1 game against a power-5 opponent, here's the teams that wouldn't qualify this year under that criteria:

NC State
Wake Forest

What a bold scheduling move by the ACC...

9 just makes too much sense for this new era of mega-confs.

the only down side i see is the 4h-5a years, but that would help SOS for the teams who are truly good.

and to take it a step further...

9 games is where the ACC/SEC schedule agreement comes in handy. you flip flop the 4h's with the 5a's by conf and insure a nice 5th h game. dont let the schools schedule these, have it done at the league office level.

throw in 2 maac's and you are golden.

At the current schedule, the ACC is not one football conference, it's two conferences with a scheduling agreement. Under the current schedule we'll play Notre Dame more often than any non-crossover opponent in the other division, and ND isn't even a full member of the conference.

The issue is that it makes the road to the playoffs just a little more difficult and the ACC and SEC want to protect their "big dogs" and this is a way to assist them. A 9 game schedule will eventually pass but it certainly won't come without resistance. The SEC will eventually change it and then the ACC will follow.

And just the 2015 non-conference as scheduled now would leave only NC State as the only team not playing a P5 non-conference game.

Forget announcing a new ACC scheduling agreement, just announce it as "Hey NC State, your non-conference schedules looks like Rutgers"
