Now that GMac is our guy (I did prefer someone with a proven offensive system), here’s what I want to see and also expect to see next year.
1) effort and intensity - two things that get drilled down from the coaching staff and the players have to embody. Doesn’t matter if we’re up by 20, tied or down by 20 - these should remain constant. That means playing hard through the whistle, diving for loose balls and having that specific mentality.
2) kind of ties in to above, but body language. No pouting, no excessive arguing with the refs.
3) physical defense - don’t really need to expand on this either you do it or you don’t.
4) some kind of offensive system that actually lets players feel like they need to be ready for that pass or that the ball will touch their hands during a possession.
5) rebounding with intensity aka boxing out
6) solid fundamentals - this feels like something we’ve lacked for a while. We’ve had too much talent to be so mediocre.
7) solid FT shooting.
Anything else I’m missing? I feel like if we can do this, the results we want/expect will be there more often than not. This doesn’t have anything to do with specific players, this is more about what Syracuse basketball is/will be and that will be happening from the top down.
