what if Hackett's available?

Hackett was Lester 3 years ago, around that time everyone was talking about how ineffective, inexperienced and over his head Hackett was, how he was only hired as a favor to his father, etc, etc.

Just cracks me up that a guy who was deemed incompetent for the very same reasons Lester is being deemed incompetent is now the ideal OC for us because he was given the time to learn, gain experience, and as a result became pretty effective before he left, in spite of all the negativity thrown at him early on.
i hope you're not saying that I think he's the ideal OC because I said i don't want either of them

I'm not saying that you said he was the ideal OC, but I've just found it ironic how much his name has been mentioned around here the past month or so.

I don't want to wait another 3 years for a guy to learn. We can't afford to do that. HCSS will be canned before then, and his replacement will want his own guy. That's the difference. Theoretically, if we brought in Hackett now, we could shave 2.5 years off the OC learning curve.

At this point I don't even care who it is. I just want to know there is a plan, and the plan will be implemented. Changing OC's, and recruiting for different offenses every 1.5 years isn't going to get us anywhere other then irrelevancy.

Agreed. That's why the next hire has to be an immediate win. Otherwise HCSS is out and we are going to have the revolving door problem on a team-wide scale.

Doesn't crack me up as much as people saying we can't fire Shafer because we don't want to start over. Even though we're staring down the barrel at a 3 win season and we're about to completely change the offense (supposedly).

Yeah, I'd ...hate... to... have... to... start... ov I can't even finish it. At least we still have Bullough.
people want to keep coaches and change schemes. as if these schemes are something you can learn in an offseason. that's what mcdonald tried to do.

you gotta decide what you want to do with the offense, then pick your coach accordingly.

we may have had a lot of turnover at head coach but it's nothing compared to the turnover at offensive coordinator.

i'm so tired of our head coaches throwing against the wall. hell, i don't know why marrone hired spence. maybe it was just desperation, he gets credit for ending that experiment.

if people want some stability again, we need to hire an offensive head coach or at the least a coach that knows what he wants to do.

Only if he brings nassib and lemon with him.

It still amazes me that the most important components of our passing game during Marrone's final year, 4 years after he was hired, were all GRob recruits. It's pretty telling as to how poorly we recruited at WR and QB during Marrone's latter years. I've bolded guys currently contributing.

2010 - QB - Kinder (couldn't play at this level), Miller (kicked off the team and never materialized anywhere)
2010 - WR - West, Dyshawn Davis (was a LB after prep), Flemming

2011 - QB - Hunt
2011 - WR - Hale (Injured his entire time), Foster (career ending injury), Kobena

2012 - QB - None
2012 - WR - Broyld (converted from RB in 2013), Cornelius, Lewis

2013 - QB - Wilson
2013 - WR - None

Now 2013 was the year he left, Zach Allen would have been on the QB list for that year, but Marrone's staff hadn't landed a WR prior to leaving. And if I remember correctly, WR recruiting was looking pretty lousy for that class even if they had stayed.

Is Hackett's job really in danger? They're 5-5, which these days is not too horrible for the Bills. I admit I haven't paid too close attention to them because, frankly, they aren't on TV down here in Texas much, but still...
