What (realistically) should happen to JB?

So you could publicly call a rape accuser a lying slut, but as long as you apologized later on if new evidence came out everything would be just fine?

If raging at me for pointing this out makes you feel better go nuts. JB went all-in, time will tell how it turns out for him. If he does get fired for the backlash from victims' rights groups, he has nobody to blame but himself.

But from JB's perspective they did lie. Again, here is what davis said:

“Boeheim saw me with Bernie all the time in hotel rooms, on road trips,”

So one of them is lying. if JB is lying then he needs to be fired. And if davis is lying then he owes JB an apology. And you do too.

Would that not be but one of the "pack of a thousand lies?" I know you think that he was referring just to being implicated about the hotel sighting. JB would have been fine if that was all he attacked. Not sure why you deny the rest.

He never called Bobby a lying slut. Not once.As far as JB and EVERYONE else was concerned Bobby was lying. Time for people to get over JB's WORDS.Its not a big deal in my book.

Two points:
(a)We know much more about this story's "details" than the general public. Like I said- its the headlines, the ESPN crawl, & the excerpted soundbites. The general public neither knows nor cares WHY JB made the comments- just how those statements were framed..."liars"- that'll be repeated ad nauseum over the next 48 hrs.
(b) This is now in the hands of the PC police. My biggest worry is that you'll start to hear from victim's advocates & child protection groups, all demanding more action from SU. If Cantor hears a chorus to fire or suspend JB, I have no doubt she will.
Is that entirely fair, of course not. But this isn't totally about logic at this point, its about emotion.
We all saw it in that Doyle article, the first of many to come, IMO.

Again, this is NOT just about logic at this point- we've moved past that. With the first picket sign will come serious repercussions for JB. That's just fact.

You're confusing 'What should happen to JB' with 'What will happen to JB?'

This thread is about what should happen.

Nice exaggeration, straw man.

Just because a lynch mob forms doesn't mean a lynching must occur.

If he gets fired, does this help things? Nope. It will just become further reason for the uninformed masses to be able to assume/think/have an opinion that the SU BB program/University is to be blamed for this travesty. If the intent of firing JB is to mitigate the heat that SU is rceeiving/will get from the Fine mess they are in, I don't think canning JB will help that objective .

JB's comments are just another incident in a long line of media eyesores in recent years. He has no filter for what comes out of his mouth - some might call that refreshing - but a belief that one is untouchable will usually do that person in if they live long enough. The apologizing going on here is nauseating.

Nothing should "happen" to JB. Believe me, he si a good man who only made the mistake of strongly backing a close friend who fooled everyone around him, who tricked the university, the police, and professional reporters for years. JB will do the right thing, Allowing him the time to learn about and advocate for abuse victims will do a lot more good than anything at this point. From what I hear that is somthing Bobby Davis will like, and his healing needs to come first.

Right, because that's such a stretch from calling molestation accusers money-seeking liars.

Some people just don't like to be called liars. I think JB was baited in to his angry response. Davis said JB saw him in the room with BF. JB responds with That's a pack of a thousand lies. Emotions are emotions.
You and some others on this board like to spin it so it fits your story. Stick with the facts.

If the rumors about players sleeping with Mrs Fine are true then he should retire yesterday. It shows a total lack of institutional control and the NCAA will be paying us a visit soon. At least if he retires now he can stay out of the investigation process.

What confuses me is that insiders on this very board have posted in the very recent past that JB knows and controls every exact detail about his program right down to the temperature setting in the Melo center before practices. If that's true how do you miss the fact that your star players are sleeping with your assistant's wife?

It sad that an amazing coach and great person is being brought down by something this slimey.

I think that at the end of the day we will see JB finish out this season and then retire. Not becuase he is forced to, but because I think this will be the straw that broke the camels back. He has contemplated retirement and come out to say that it will be in the near future. Now to have a very very close friend and fellow coach (seeminly) be guilty of the things he was accused of and how violently JB backed him. He may just hand the keys over to Hop, knowing that he is ready.

My opinion.

The media will interpret and spin regardless, it's what they do. Dirt sells!

Um, and I admit I say this as a former member of the media, we should point out that if not for the media BF may be hurting some other boy right this second. The media tells a story and it's up to an audience to interpret it. Sometimes you agree, sometimes you don't. But there is far less spin in most cases than most people think.

OK- what should happen is that his comments are explained, taken into context, & everyone understands & leaves it alone.
Sorry, I didn't realize this thread was more about wishful thinking than actual reality...my bad. :noidea:

Let's look at what JB knew when he made those statements. First, he knew that the allegations were investigated by the university and found to have no substance years before. BF probably swore to him that there was absolutely no substance to the claims. He knew the man for an eternity. These weren't recent claims. He knew the whole Penn State story. Putting everything he knew together it was not a stretch to think that the people making the claims were trying to use the Penn State situation to try to make some money. He believed this had been looked into and there was no substance to the charges. So he reacted in anger and spoke in support of his friend and colleague. He did not know about the tape. He was probably more surprised then anyone to learn that BF had this secret life. Should he be suspended for the statements he originally made. NO. He should admit he was wrong. Apologize. Keep apologizing. Learn from it. And unless something new is unearthed that shows that JB had any knowledge of what BF was up to he continues on coaching the team.

We all know that but the public does not know that. Which is why the public needs to be made aware of all of that. Otherwise there will be a lynch mob.

This^^^
I read the Penn State posts as that scandal was exploding, & they had many details that I hadn't heard in the media. They kept arguing how the real "story with context" hadn't been told about JoePa, & at the time I thought it was just making excuses.
Who thinks that people reading this forum right now are thinking the same thing? At some point, perception is reality- & details are for apologists. Sad, but true.

I don't disagree about JB being baited a little, but he should have known better. Please share my agenda with me, I wasn't aware I had one.
