Good article in The Athletic (also available to NY Times subscribers). It talks about how college football is in a spot with all this conference uncertainty where they really need to lean into traditional rivalries. Then, in an ideal world, this is what one writer thinks they should look like.

Spoiler - they place us with BC, and Pitt vs. WVU in the Backyard Brawl. People might dismiss BC as a true "rival" of ours, but there have been an annoying number of losses to them over the years, several of which left a bad taste afterwards.

Always been a pet peeve of mine labelling Thanksgiving as “Rivalry” week. No students on campus, one or both teams with their post season fate largely decided, and generally miserable weather in the Northeast. Not to mention the potential conflict with a basketball tournament. Would strongly prefer opening the conference season with Rivalry Week. Boston in September would be a great weekend.

I think the big issue is that the teams have rarely had a sustained period of beiing good. Ok-Neb played that weekend for a long time but it was always a big game and the fans cared.

BC is a rival but not as much for the fans.

Now if we played Miami in the hay day and the teams were top 10 we would have had people show up.

Didn't it almost happen in 2020? That would have been a blast.

Labor Day weekend. Yankees were scheduled to play in Fenway that week. And we were working with the Boston alumni club to rent a parking lot for a huge tailgate.
