We have the X WR in Steve Ishmael.

We lack a Z WR who can get separation and run slants, in and outs, deep routes.

We have Y TE in Pierce who can be a red zone target.

We have slot WRs in Erv Philips, Sean Riley. They need to learn combination routes and get in sync with Dungey.

The freshman and recruits we have could be that Z WR.

Freshman wide receivers can come in and play.

IMO, until they improve the run blocking and get a back who is big & fast enough to gain consistent yardage; they should use the pass to set up the run.
When we play LSU next Saturday night; LSU's big uglies on both D & O lines will give our lines an awakening, especially since they will be angry after the loss to Miss State.

Some freshmen receivers (and some of our commits) might play early; same for RBs. But it isn't clear that our current group of freshmen includes the ones who can step in and have an immediate impact.

I don't see a silver bullet on the roster. Pierce might contribute more -- hasn't met expectations as a receiver, though he does a lot of other things. Babers seems to be holding try-outs at that Z receiver spot (left side, where AET left a big hole) and has yet to find the right guy. The offense has to try a combination of Strickland & short passes, and keep away from second & long. No simple solutions.

We lack a running game I think everything else is fine but without a consistent running game this offense will struggle to put up consistent numbers.
