What went wrong for Syracuse football defense in Maryland blowout? (podcast)

I say it again and again that u can’t play defense without being aggressive. I beat the same drum but we need ward to become aggressive and attack and then disguise our d better. Good defenses are aggressive and mean downhill type teams. Aggressive o without aggressive d isn’t smart coaching. Look no further than this weeks game. Venerable is the most aggressive d coach I see in college today. We need that. We need that bad.

This is a good breakdown. Also a nice Fine Mess mention at the end of the episode.

Had nothing to do with aggression. They were out of position often. That's how you get the 15-20 yard gains time after time again.

Has everything to do with aggression. Most of his calls were soft not trying to get beat. Tackling was atrocious. They were stopping their ft on contact and tackling to high. Why can’t we play a heavy dose of man to man and seal slants off. U do that by being aggressive on inside shoulder not allowing slant to happen. I could go on and on.

that was as aggressive as we have been in awhile. we run blitzed a ton, but the guys who didnt blitz took bad angles and fell a sleep way too often. But when you play faster players for the first time you need to learn sometime

It seems pretty obvious that Locksley and staff saw this game as a big opportunity for recognition and spent a lot of time breaking down our schemes and tendencies. It doesn't seem like our staff had the same focus on this game. It's easy to get caught up in the hype of being ranked for players AND coaches.
