Everybody loved the segment where the camera's caught the usher in the third level of the Dome putting on some dance moves. Perhaps if they tagged it, The Dancing Usher, provided to you by CJ Cookies or some such advertisement they could bring it back. After all it's probably about the money.

Detroit's Dancing Usher

Footnote:

Our usher was told to stop doing his dance, that's a fact Jack!

I'm still haplessly working on my plan and recruitment for Jake65 to take the torch of the *NEW* DOME RANGER, but it ain't working out so well.

that's nuts, he was the life of the party during some games.

some bean counter says their must be huge liability issue, therefor all fun must come to an end.

Did Buzz Shaw tell him to 'Get a Life'? :D

Of course they told him to stop. That doesn't help promote the Dome Gestapo / KGB / Mr. Cranky Pants image. Fear the yellow jackets! ;) #NoFunZone

That Detroit Dancing Usher video was on the national news, GMA and many other news sources the other day and is up for a Today Show award for "Best digital dance-off" in the Orange Room of all things. It has at least five pages on youtube.

I ran into a university official I know and asked why SU would stop the usher from dancing, he just shrugged his shoulders.

Bring back the dancing Dome usher campaign, we all need to smile more.

I thought there was a P-S article a number of years ago saying that he suffered a heart attack, had health issues and had to stop. When the dome first opened there used to be a group of ushers who danced outside the dome as fans entered at the closest entrance to Hendrick's Chapel. I don't know why the University doesn't hire entertaining, fun ushers like that anymore.

His name is Jack Colvin. He did suffer a heart attack. Saw him working a basketball game a couple of weeks ago. Believe he spends at least part of each winter in Florida these days.

He told me Dome management didn't like his act and put the kibosh on displaying his moves. Also reassigned him from section 310; another usher told me they are regularly rotating the ushers these days.

I think they are trying to discourage the development of personalities and relationships with fans. Strikes me being a little odd.

Jack told me he wanted to have fun with the crowd but was told to stop. He's one of the friendliest people employed by Syracuse.

He ushers in my section now...211. I have to say he is less than kind. I am sure he is a great guy but we refer to him as the ticket nazi in our section as he is constantly checking tickets and kicking people out of the section even for the games where there are tons of seats available.

We had the same usher for 10 years and noone had a problem and then this guy moves in and its been less than pleasant. He wouldnt let me back into the section one game because I had left to go to the bathroom and left my ticket stub in my vest pocket which was at my seat. He walked down with me to my seat and made me show him. He also made it a point to tell everyone in our section after the exhibition games that he would be checking every ticket from here on in. Literally went row to row warning people that next game they need to have an actual ticket for this section. We had our old usher back for one game and it was like the heavens opened up.

Like I said probably a good guy and is just doing his job but I have been attending games in the dome since it opened and hes the worst of the bunch by far

Doubt it was a bean counter, more like a lawyer or upper management who needed to show his/her stance of dominance.

What an opportunity the university is missing to make attending the dome a memorable, welcoming, fun experience for not only fans but visitors. I can't imagine why they strive to make going to the dome a dull, neutral, impersonal event. Strange.

Maybe they want more dancing by fans, and less dancing by ushers.

Yeah well did you have a security cam installed and get an assigned usher to watch your group like we did? My memory is hazy and I disavow any complicity but apparently some Wyoming Football Coaches were intimidated by some guys sitting near us...I still think our group err I mean our section was responsible for that win in '06.

They disliked it so much that they used to show it on the video board... Pre recorded. I sit reasonably close to where he was, and every time they would show it, I'd look at him and he'd be standing still.

That being said, I disliked it also. Gave me the creeps.

Monkey see - monkey do:p or maybe there is fear that it might cut the infamous funeral-like droning of our "favorite" cheer - weeeee rrrrrrrr ssssssss uuuuu. ;)

I would have those cheerleaders spinning faster and faster like a top- to speed up and energize that "cheer" if I was going to use it.

Sorry to hear that, he has always been affable to me and whenever I sat on the curtain side for basketball he was always courteous.

Over-zealous enforcement of anything just sucks. People may be doing their jobs, but they are using their miniscule little it of authority to make life miserable in pointless ways.

It's like when my wife got a ticket for texting while driving when pulled over because it's ten degrees and she decided not to turn of the engine.

Or how in the schools now, 6 year old kids are not allowed to touch one another (i mean no pats on the back, rolling around normal kid stuff) for fear of a lawsuit. No physical contact what so ever, the teachers can't hug a crying kid either. It's insane.

Just silly people taking things too seriously and taking the fun/joy out of existence.

Like I said I am sure he is a good guy. Just rubbing people the wrong way in our section

Was in New Orleans for a conference this weekend and my brother and I went to the Sunday night game in the Superdome (not a bad seat, like our dome). Ushers interacted and had a great time with the fans. The atmosphere was the opposite of what the dome has been like for football for the last 10-15 years and created an incredible home field advantage (fans on their feet for first down, etc). The only time I have experienced anything similar in our dome for football was McNabb's last game. It think our AD could learn a lot by going to a game there

We used to have an usher named Bill down next to the front of the student section for basketball for my first few years at SU. He'd always try to get the student cheering and pumped and yelling on defense. The Dome moved him because of it. We were all pissed, Bill was awesome. I always make a point of trying to find him when I'm up there at a game.
