Where’s the tempo?

In the past this was considered Meathead coaching. I guess it’s back in style and cool as long as HCDB is doing it.

* I don’t disagree with it by the way. I just want to win and this was how we won.
Pretty much.

Cult of personality > rational thought

When HCDFB’s first joined Cuse, he was adamant about having and utilizing a strong running game with his approach. I think we will see a slightly more balanced style to his play calls now he has the guys to do it. Some seem to think this is an air raid offense. Dino likes a run game in his mix. Thats a good thing especially when we could be playing on a wet and windy field this week.

Really? Why have we not consistently slowed the game down under Dino when we've played more talented teams?

Great question. Ask Dino.

But anyone with 5 free minutes and a quarter can tell you why I’m right.

I don't think I need to ask Dino because I don't think he subscribes to that philosophy and anyone with espn and fair eyesight will tell you that's accurate. He believes, in general, being uptempo is the equalizer, not the opposite. If he agreed with you, we would have consistently slowed things down against Clemson. The only time we've done that is at the end of the game when we beat them in the Dome when we had a lead and were already in control. However, I think he is strategic with using high tempo, which is why we didn't use it this weekend against a team with inferior talent.

This thread didn’t really age well for a lot of you after Dino’s press conference.

Some of you nailed it.

He won with how the game was flowing and to the strength of his team at that time.

And the strength was clearly D & STs with the run game.

And the weakness was the incompetence of our WRs, which apparently has been basically quite telling to anyone who witnessed practice, which is why it’s a good thing it’s closed.

To be clear, math isn’t an opinion. Not agreeing with me is like not agreeing that 2+2=4.

Small sample size variance isn’t the same as large sample size variance. Again, I can prove it with 5 minutes and a quarter.

Anybody who subscribes to ESPN & has passed high school statistics can tell you that’s accurate.

It’s probably unpopular but I always liked a slow methodical offense predicated on the run game with screens and play action. I’m perfectly fine with running 60-40 or 65-35 if it just wears out the opposing D and keeps our D ready to get turnovers and stops and keep destroying the D. 3.5 yards a rush is a first down every time.

FWIW - I personally don’t care what we do as long as we win.

And that’s what Dino did.

He found what was working, kept it working and and at the end of the day...it worked.

Impressively I may add.

Just because it wasn’t done the way I expected, doesn’t take the W off of the board.

Trying to do it ‘my way’ might’ve, who knows??

Same for me. I don’t understand the hatred towards “meathead” football outside cause Narduzzi and BC seem to run
People here have an irrational inferiority complex towards anything BC, so they spend days, months even, waiting to take a shot at them.

It’s like Belichick worrying and obsessing over the Argonauts having 17 Grey Cups to his 6 Lombardi’s. (Really 1...3 were by cheating and 2 by the benefit of idiotic coaching, but I digress)

Our WRs weren’t or aren’t incompetent they were injured throughout camp, a lot of them

No - you’ve stuck to your guns even when presented with Dino’s successes over the last 3 years and a coherent description of his philosophy.

“More possessions vs good teams is bad!” is the simplistic understanding.

True.

Injuries mean no practice and reps, which leads to game day incompetence on their route running.

Which was quite apparent.

Also doesn’t exonerate Tommy from the stupid 2nd INT.

1. The same WRs were very good last year.
2. Can’t catch balls 10 feet over your head.
3. Things were out of sync.

Dino's O tempo begins and ends with his OL. This unit is not as good as last year's, and they're certainly not as cohesive. Few guys still trying to get conditioned and absorb the playbook.

Also, the OL unit last year had already been marinated and seasoned by Goldberg Edinger for 3 years...

this.

The things being out of sync worry me. However, first game, I’ll let it slide but it sucks we have to go into Maryland after that first week sluggish start. Hopefully that game opened some eyes up.

Some balls over the head mean the route was run wrong or not hard enough.

The out of sync should be the injury lack of reps, I think the WRs will need to do more adjusting their routes and reading a D this year.

Previously, there was no need as the QB just gained the yards by himself if the 1st look wasn’t there.

We will miss eric’s unbelievable ability to get yards with his legs, sometimes in spite of quick decision making from the pocket to open wideouts

if you dont the the D you are playing against you dont know the correct routes to run, that leads to a lot of late throws and those are never a good thing..

we threw in rhythm about 7-8 times all night.

It’s not the wrong route if the pass is 10 yards out of bounds. It’s the sideline passes that we’re the biggest problem.
