Which Athlete Defined Your Lifetime/Generaton?

Willie Mays
Johnny Unitas
Bill Russell
Maurice Richard
Lew Hoad
Bro Hogan

I'm old. These are my generation ... not lifetime.

Donnie Baseball, Magic, Bird, MJ, Tiger

Mickey Mantle
Joe Namath
Jerry West (but only by the finest of frog hairs over Walt Frazier)
Bobby Hull
I didn't like golf as a kid, but it would have been Arnie.

Mantle.
Ali.
Jim Brown.

I wish I had a nickel for every time I said to my Dad when we were watching the Giants play the Browns, "Look! Brown's hurt! Brown's hurt!" only to have him rip off another 5 yards on the next play.

Indeed, when walking back to the huddle he often resembled one of the lost tribes.

Can I just use the Big Red machine as a whole unit? That way Cesar Geronimo gets some love adjacent.

I'd also go with the hoops trio of Bird, Magic and Larry Legend. Tony Dorsett, Walter Payton and maybe Evel Knievel to finish things off..

awesome finish.

people need to realize how HUGE Evel Knievel was in the 70s.

I had all kinds of Evel Knievel toys and he was a must watch on tv.

At the macro level, Derek Jeter for baseball, Jordan / Bird / Magic for basketball, and Brady for football.

At the micro level of my interests:

Sherman Douglas / Derrick Coleman / Carmelo Anthony for SU hoops
Coach Mac / Marvin Graves / Donovan McNabb for SU football
Gary and Paul Gait for SU lax
Larry Bird for the Boston Celtics "Big Three" era
Dan Marino for the Miami Dolphins
Jeter / Mariano / Pettite / Tino Martinez for the Yankees

Michael Jordan. Magic's health issues, Dream Team and recovery is really right there.

Joe Montana.

Gooden and Strawberry should've been, but...

When's your birthday, bro?

Oh come on man, he was a bug in search of a windshield. Being wild and fearless didn't make him an athlete of any magnitude. He was this guy with a death wish:
