Which of our guys would we like back next year?

I don’t care who comes back. If the new coach wants to recruit a few guys to stay then I’d defer to him. Otherwise they can all go and we can start over.

Maybe. Ships don't choose whether they want to float, though. The dude has a ton of talent. I question his attitude.
Yup. But a lot times winning changes a lot of things including attitudes. I think great coaches bring out the best in their players.

Roberts and Watkins were your typical Hop recruits. Excellent defensively, but severely limited on offense. Zero ability to do anything really outside of 5 feet and a big reason why their teams struggled their last two years here. Not that it means anything for players to keep, but it’s a concern of mine bringing Hop in. Not enough offensive focus.

I'd take everyone back and fill in the gaps from departing players. That said, I'd pay less for Donnie because he's injury prone, and pay less for + recruit over George, if the nil allowed.

That said, I'd try to not get too worked up over who Hodgson wants and who he doesn't.

I would almost guarantee whatever coach comes in would want to keep Donnie (assuming it fits with their NIL budget).

I agree, but you can only play him at SF.
If you have Donnie, Sadiq and Kingz back, all 3 start, and Kingz is the 2.

Mookie scored more than 50 points in a game in HS.
Roberts was a Top 25 recruit and played for St. Anthony's in Jersey City under Saint Bob Hurley. To say they had "zero" offensive ability is a disservice to who they were as players.

How does one "leak out" on a fast break when they are playing along the baseline in the zone setup?

Roberts led the team in rebounding for 2 or 3 years, so he did his share of the work. But I have plenty of memories of him leaving early on the break when he thought Mookie would get the rebound, and was on the receiving end of many a pass for a dunk.

They were limited in college. I know they were highly rated. Overall I expected more based on the pedigree they came in with. That class in its entirety never met expectations.

I think that's fair. They probably should have done better.

Nichols did blossom his junior and senior years, and was good enough that we thought he might get drafted. He had ridiculous total shooting numbers his senior year, and was one of the best in the nation.

Mookie was basically an 8 pts, 8 rebounds guy for most of his career, and he finished with the 5th most blocked shots in school history. Historically, that's a pretty good return for most centers.

Terrence Roberts was a 10 pts, 8 rebounds guy at PF with exactly one block a game for his SU career.

They were the 2nd best big man combo of the 21st Century, after Arinze and RIck a couple years later.

I'd say the only real bust of that class was Louie McCrosky.

Nichols was the best out of them and he was awful his first two years. We never really saw any growth from the other two. McCroskey couldn’t even count to 10. I had class with him. It was embarrassing.

Agree. New coach can assess what's there. Whatever fits great. But anyone on this year's roster also needs to be told that while they're getting a fresh start, there is an expectation for more effort.

Give them the Herb Brooks line (at least the one from Miracle) where he knows he has to cut some players. "If you give 99%, you make my job easy"

Terrence Roberts was also a Top 50 recruit and was terrific for us until he had a couple knee injuries.
He probably shouldn't have slapped the backboard one time in a fairly critical point in the season. That's what I remember most about him, unfortunately.
As a Vermont resident, I am reminded every March.

I didn’t realize you’re a Vermonter as well! What part of the state are you in?

New coach should have his say obviously. What I would say is:

Kingz (ton of talent), Sadiq (huge upside), Kiyan (this has extenuating circumstances because of Melo).

George needs too much of the right team to be a right fit. He can't create offense on his own. He's like the exact opposite of those previous dribble drive PGs that Cal would have.
