Which of our guys would we like back next year?

you need as many people to return as possible, or at least as many people as a coach wants,
so that you are not constantly churning over a roster. SU is not UK or Duke or Ark or some
other program that can continually bring in 7, 8 guys on a yearly basis, or bring in a class of
5 or 6 because they want to run off, er, "give guys the talk". not that i think SU has the NIL
resources to go chasing classes like those schools do, so, they need to develop guys, and that
kinda suffers when you're running off the team. and this has been their problem for a long
time.

and i'll be honest, i can't keep track of who all can even come back. i'd take the entire freshman
class back, you're not going to go and find depth pieces like betsey and souare easily so keep
them, zephyr, if he wants to stay, let him. i believe jj is done, think the same of kyle and kingz,
figure donnie is gone one way or another, and then you gotta decide with george. is he great?
no, is he likely better than who you're signing out of hs (yes) or who might come with a new
coach (prob). but look, this team has needed a PG for a few years, and they can't develop one
with two former PGs on staff, so i'd not exactly be excited about running a reasonably effective
one off. if both kingz and kyle could get another year, i'd certainly keep both.

do i want everyone on the roster back, no. do i think everyone WOULD come back, also no. i do
think this team had way more potential than it showed. i hate coaching without making any
attempt to develop players like womack, fennell, and diawara. if you got other teams who can
develop some of the stiffs they got into reasonably effective players, even if they are effective only
against the orange, this staff ought to be able to do it also, so that they can play against some of
the teams on the schedule. there is no real at all that diawara cannot get into the game against
wake, and prevent schwieger from going for 11p, 4r, and 2a against SU, which doubled his season
averages on ALL of those, including doubling his FG% up to 100%.

Just like a new AD wanting to hire "his guy" for the coaching positions, coaches will want their players.

I just randomly chose Villanova, as I was trying to think of P4 schools with new coaches this year.

They have exactly 1 player (Tyler Perkins) who was on the Nova roster last year. A few followed from UMD, 2 are from Grand Canyon, and the rest from other ports o' call.

I'll look at the others tonight. NC State, FSU, Miami and Indiana come to mind.

Depends who the coach is. If it is Hodgson then I would want White, and that is it. I will take Anthony back if it comes with 30 million and Hodgson.

Watching Hodgson the last two years I think White would go crazy in that system.

All the other players, including Freeman, can kick rocks, and everyone knows I think Freeman is super talented and has been coached terribly. I think a ton of years of bad coaching, including high school, AAU, and 2 years of Red I am afraid that Freeman will have collected too many bad habits to be fixed, and for him to do what is actually needed to win games instead of what is actually comfortable for him.

I am guessing Kingz won't get the extra year so I don't put him on the list. If he comes back, he'd better work on his conditioning to play for Hodgson, looks like he is losing his legs here down the stretch.

Betsy doesn't have the motor to play in that system, he has the shooting ability but not the motor.

If it is Hopkins doesn't really matter who stays or comes back.

I'll piggy back on your post.

White, Kingz, and maybe Fennel. I would kill for Kyle to somehow have another year, as I think he could impact no matter who is the coach.

And I 90% expect Fennel to transfer out, similar to Petar last year. But I think with his shooting, I'd give him a look.

Everyone else can bail. Even Donnie -- who I think for his own good needs a change of scenery, and a competent head coach who can hold him accountable for defense and make him play more inside-out, to optimize his skills, and get him to the League.

I think the answer to "who we would want back" is pretty obvious with the exception of Donnie. That's where I'm conflicted. In his current form, I'd say no. If we really think a coach could help him be effective playing more inside out and not allow defenders to simply snatch the ball out of his hands, sure. I just don't think it's that easy though as every aspect of his game is kinda soft (which I hate to say).

NCSU brought back 1 scholarship player and 1 walk-on: One plays 28.3 mpg, the other has played 14 minutes overall

FSU brought back 2 scholarship players and 1 walk-on: 6.8 mpg, 16.2 mpg, and 11 minutes overall

Miami brought back 0 players

Indiana brought back 1 walk-on: 17 minutes all season
