Pretty easy q. Not yesterday. Not tomorrow. Right now. All things equal.

If you feel good about both, send me some of what you are having and vote for the one you FEEL LESS good about

Syracuse B-Ball has a much bigger national following than Syracuse Football. It will be much easier to right the ship in hoops.
Counterpoint...Syracuse has already expressed a willingness to go outside the program to hire for football. Whether Brown works out or not, it is clear that for football, Cuse is willing to do a national search rather than just stay cheap and local. That means there will always be many more good options for football.

Oh, that is an easy question for me. I actually think if we can keep our QB on his feet next year, we will be pretty good. Plus, I know Fran is going to make massive changes. I have no trust that we will be good next year in hoop. I don't think our talent is all that bad right now. If Freeman comes back healthy. Fran has shown with the right players he can win 10 games. Sadly, Red has shown the same.

I don't feel bad about either program.
Then vote for the one you feel slightly less euphoric about then?
Hands Up What GIF by Island Touch Dance

That's a no vote for me. Fan of both teams and they can go 0 for their next 80 games (like UMass football my nephew tells me) but I won't feel worse or worser...still love them both!

Side note, who remembers the "you should feel bad" threads? We should feel bad.

But we don't.

Aside from coaching, basketball has major tailwinds...great history, facilities, fan support, nil support, national recognition, fertile recruiting area, biggest stadium in america, powerful ex-nba alumni and sportscaster alumni, etc. We have just had one hand tied behind our backs for a decade.

Football is all headwinds - poor recruiting area, low fan support, insufficient NIL, few traditions, higher than average academic standards, injury-prone turf stadium, poor-average facilities, hard to attract quality coaching, etc.

No brainer as far as I'm concerned.

Basketball. Seems like players have no plan during the game. Offensive sets? Out of bounds plays? Press sets? Recruiting focus. Football has some time to get grounded with recruiting and coaching imo.

Except…. Not if Red isn’t the answer as HC.

And it is seeming more and more like he may not be.

In spite of how these games since Angeli got hurt vs Clemson blow donkeys,
at least Fran had that 10 win season,
AND the big road W at Clempsum as proof of concept.

AND - it seems like in spite of how the season ended, we appear to be hanging on the the majority of our top Croots.

We know Fran can recruit like nobody’s business, and he’s gonna pound the portal until it cries uncle!

Get PB Angeli back to full health, bring in another viable QB via the portal, fill in a few spots here and there and we’ll be cooking with gas once again.

Hoops - if Red doesn’t make the Big Dance this season, he needs to be shown the door.

And it’s not looking all that likely that we’re going to find enough quality W’s to get r’ done…

… so that means a total tear down and reboot.
And the results of that, especially in the near term are far too variable and unknown.

Which is why I think football is in a less-bad position than hoops right now.

Well said. I think at 42 years old Fran just is living in a different world than Autry is. Not like Autry is old but he feels like a dinosaur sometimes.

I just see a willingness from Fran to dramatically make changes, almost to extreme unheard of extents for CNY. I think we’ll see them very soon.

I see Autry living in the past. Pretending we’re still in the Big East and still a top dog and the team can just come together over the entirety of the season or even multiple years. Problem is that now days seasons can be ruined by December. Players see the tourney slipping and give up. They know the portal is there. They can try 4 programs in 4 years if they want.

The definition of insanity is doing the same things and expecting different results.

Basically I expect one coach to surprise me. And the other coach just to keep doing the same thing.

Football has a small excuse built in, I disagree with it given just how horrendous the season was but that caveat about the qb still there. Basketball 100%.

I feel better about about football. QB is the most important position in sports. We started the year with a good one and the season looked promising. We didn't have one the last 8 games. That good one is back next year. Yeah, we need to recruit a solid backup, and other things need to be addressed, but that one loss kept us from bowling this year. Had we ended the year with 3 more wins and a minor bowl, people would feel great about next year.

When Red won 20 games the first year I thought 2nd and 3rd year the team and everything would skyrocket. I’m still hoping this year can be what I think it can become. But they need Donnie in order for that to happen. Football was skyrocketing in year 2 as well after the Clemson win and an easy ACC schedule until the injury. It’s always a what if with both teams. I know Fran is making changes that are necessary so next year is fine, but we need bball to continue. Tough to recruit when the future is uncertain

They both are essentially terminally ill at the moment.

Basketball is a much easier fix as you only need to get a competent coach and 5 studs from the portal.

Football, while it also requires a competent coaching staff, necessitates a huge turnover from portal, and a ton of prime beef on both sides of the line, which is something we just can't ever seem to accomplish. Football is on full life support as a result.

Right on. This is the reality today for Syracuse athletics. I would also add that the ACC is heavily skewed towards basketball, even though the last few years have been pretty abysmal. The ACC isn't the fit that the Big East was for basketball, but it can work.

The unfortunate part of big time college athletics is that football drives the money train, and it would take a miracle for a program like us to become a major player.

Football because no matter what Fran does (and for the record I think he's over his skis on the actual football coaching) SU is going to be up against it financially. I don't think we have a future with the big boys in football no matter how effective our plan is. Hope I'm wrong.
Hoop fix is easy. Fire Red and don't hire anyone who has any connection with JB.

I know you have to pick which board to post this on but unfortunately your results are gonna be skewed because the basketball only’s (yuck) on this side are going to skew heavily one way. As an “equal lover” I agree with the take that hoops is easier to become great again because a couple of studs can change a season. Football is such a monster sized operation.

Edit: looking at current results, I think I got my theory backwards. Basketball only’s are going to be tougher on the program they love more. I won’t quit my day job
