Whigham's Take

Our effeciency on O isn’t that much better than last year with Eric. And our red zone scoring % is similar or worse than last year. I haven’t checked - but I think field position has given us more red zone opportunities, which has led to more scoring.

There’s more meat on the bone. And the good news is, I don’t see why it can’t get better.

(For example - I think Babers was trying to prove a point by running so much vs FSU in the red zone last week)

As much as I'd to agree with him "proving a point" Cusian, it was against a team they haven't beaten since 1966, you have to score a TD when you can.

Agreed, thanks to the defense and special teams, the offense has been working mostly on short fields. IMO, the offense's efficiency has vastly improved which leads to better red zone numbers and higher scoring averages.

But you put those numbers together with the numbers about the lack of explosive plays, I see a concern against the better teams. What if we don't have the huge difference in field position and they don't let us run 10-12 play drives to score? If we can't even get big plays against the statistically worst defense ever, we've got problems. That's why I hope to see some today. You can't play "knock 'em over football" against everybody.

Our offense has scored 17 touchdowns in three games. Six have been from 20+ yards but the longest was 28 yards, (Nykiem Johnson vs. Wagner). Two of them have been from 10-19 yards and 9 within 10 yards. We are grinding it out- something the better teams we will play after this might not let us do. We need to get some explosive plays going. If we can't do it vs. UCONN, we never will.
Somewhat agree here, but our “grinding it out” game is not exactly “3 yards and a cloud of dust”.
I’ve seen our pace disrupt the likes of Clemson, FSU, and VTech. When we’re rolling and on pace, i can’t see UConn especially keeping up w/ us, and certainly not in a loud, sweltering Dome.
I expect some hiccups today, because...Syracuse football.
But in the end, it’ll be a fairly businesslike W.
