White Out

The striped idea sounds cool, similar to the way Tennessee does their checker board.

Really, a sight to see, and quite amazing. I mean, what a complete joke SU's "white out" was on Friday night...only the students seemingly participated.

In all honesty, IMO, SU (being a relatively small private...and all that that entails) vs. the big boy/flagship types, etc., will, in all probability, never walk the walk when it comes to these particular type of events.

Moreover, more proof in the pudding of truly not/likely ever being "big time" on the present day landscape.

My initial response is well... I got the SU email, or was it after I read it on here. Actually I think it was after, and less than a week out. It's all about planning as everyone has mentioned, and expectation. You want a fan base informed and energized, not surprised and angry. Of course the students were covered, but after the first half they all ran out other than some hardcores on the bottom level with the band, and even half of them were gone. For all of SU and being a Communications heavy school, we have all had bad communications and it needs to improve. I know I get flack at work if I announce shutting down X for less than a once week notice.
I feel like I've mentioned the communications thing before on other things too...

why such strong negativity? What if they did?
no problem with that, just about the planning... which means they planned it ahead of time, didn't announce it for everyone else until a 'week' before... read the rest of the thread to about the public annoucement... how long to you think it takes to plan manufacture and ship ~2k student shirts

Do you understand that Newhouse has nothing to do with the PR department of the Athletics Department? There is likely opportunity, but no obligation for Newhouse students or professors to facilitate the AD in this capacity.

For the record, I agree that this was VERY poorly orchestrated, but I don't think anyone can put this at the feet of Newhouse.

Im sorry but as a private institution, it isn't much as a facing single role and communications to fans representing the entire institution. I get the individual school does not, but it does not reflect well on them when it as a whole promotes one part over the other, but fails to perform on a fairly simple aspect.

FYI, a great notice 2 days before a Friday game on a Wednesday is great for a notice for fans and others for a White Out. But, yet it is still communications. SU should be a whole representation and is reflected in so just like any other entity when you use that name. So it should be responsible enough to engage any others that have a stake in that reputation as well.

Another is SU Parking and Concessions. Coordination with other entities for parking and such. Everyone points figures but quite simply they are all SU to us, and represent them. They should all be in sync. If you owned 50000 LLC's as an example and one points fingers at another but you had one DBA you did business under, all would suffer.

This is correct. There’s only a few comms professionals in the AD. They don’t have a big team at all. Newhouse students doing ACC network games is a different side of the equation to the daily grind of work that paid employees are focused on.

Sounds like some cross department work needs to get done and it should be those paid employees that do it. My point is it doesn't reflect good on entire representation of the SU name as that would what I would associate it to.

Turns out I don’t have any white su gear. Lots of orange and blue. Go figure
What fan wears white to a home SU Game when the colors are orange and blue? And, at a home game... White is an away game concession for all teams in any sport. That was my point all along! And a 2 day notice!

Even the team didn't wear white... They must have not got the Athletics Department memo.

I love how the entire Tennessee stadium color coordinates by sections. It's impressive. But seriously, why would we do a white out. Our colors are orange and blue.

So... correct me if I am wrong, we should have had a white out @ in Atlanta?

k I'm just done talking about wearing white, notice of it late, and also with the fact the dome of blue seats when we are all orange, except the special few clubbers that are never there, and the colors are blue and orange too.
