Been a fan for many years and always assumed JB was the one that actually made the phone calls to other coaches and arranged games. I'm pretty sure this is the case and I think he has done an excellent job scheduling good teams that keep our RPI so strong.

This year has been outstanding with Manhattan, Albany, Vtech, Stanford, Florida, Marshall, NC St., Bucknell and Tulane all having good years (winning records) which is one reason our SOS is #1 right now.

I think the key is finding the teams that should be good but not great and avoiding the teams that might be very weak. I'm wondering if he has an assistant that sits down and looks at rosters, who's graduating, what recruits are coming in, etc that might help him identify those teams?

If we could keep our cupcakes in the 125 - 200 range, it would be a recipe for a Top 5 SOS every year. Colgate kills us.

It's really only about six games maximum a year that decisions need to be made on after you toss out the no brainers. Your good but not great comment is so correct. Notice that we played Iona last year but not this year. We never played Siena those couple years that they ended up making some noise in the NCAA's but have played them other times. I'm sure JAB has final say on everything, but I can't picture him going through the internet and all of the websites to figure out all the particulars. I'm sure he counts on Hop and some other staff members for those things. Rumor has it though that he has a hot line to Iggy's house for all the questions that Hop can't answer.

I'm pretty sure AD's make schedules but I am sure JB and Marrone have a big say.

Schedule is pretty formulaic. It always has some NY schools, some schools with SU coaching connections (e.g. Murphy and Stevie this year), some pre-season tourney where we'll play 2-4 schools (some pretty decent), an SEC-challenge opponent (in recent years), generally a home and home with a BCS school and some random schools that are attracted by the Dome experience and a nice pay day. Most of us here could probably put it together.

^^^THIS^^^

AD's are the one's responsible for getting it done, but they do it in conjunction with JB.

Wow, I'm pretty surprised by that.. Must be quite a job because I'd assume that would include all sports? Always thought the coaches scheduled and the AD just formalized it.

Not Dr. Gross. There are other "sub" AD's that handle the scheduling. Gross has a staff.

Oh, that shines some light on it.. Was wondering how TGD was managing all that, then I thought about that photo of him with a cell phone in each ear. :rolling: Thanks Pete.

Can care less if Colgate hurts are rpi. We look forward to routing a few teams every year. Its fun to blow the roof off the dome.

Before SU scheduled Rob Murphy and Eastern Michigan, has JB really scheduled his former assistants? I don't recall him scheduling Tim O'Toole at Fairfeld, Wayne Morgan at Long Beach State or Iowa State, Tim Welsh at Iona, Ralph Willard at Western Kentucky, Louis Orr at Siena or Bowling Green, etc.

I think there are websites where schools can advertise for games. It's pretty funny.

We need to send a player or two to Colgate.
