We are loaded. There's no denying it.

G Tyler "The Creator" Ennis
G Trevor "Don't call me Yips" Cooney
G Ron "Buss" Patterson
G/ Mike "SilentG" Gbinije
G/ BJ "I don't need a nickname cause BJ is supercool in its own right" Johnson
CJ "Thickburger" Fair
Jerami "Manchild" Grant
Tyler "The Beast" Roberson
Rakeem "It's beginning to look a lot like" Christmas
DaJuan "The Incredible Hulk" Coleman
C Baye "Charlie Hustle" Keita
C Chinonso "Chino" Obokoh

I don't even have to stress how many stud players are going to ball all over the ACC and the rest of the country. But we do have a slight problem.

Does anyone redshirt? Are we going 7 deep? 8? 9? 10?????
Seriously, I had to throw 10 in there as opposed to 7. Fairly safe to assume Ennis, Cooney, BJ/MikeG, Fair, Grant, Roberson, Rak, Keita, DC2 so I think it's way more reasonable to assume we would play 10 over 7. I see BJ and Roberson making contributions. If you wanted to vote 7, please post. I could only create 4 different voting options.
What do we do with the others in waiting?

You decide. I will add some poll options but anything I left out, please...speculate by posting!

My guesses:
Ennis
Cooney
MikeG
BJ
CJ
Grant
Roberson
Keita
Rak
DC2

One of MikeG or BJ gets spot minutes and we play 9 of these 10. Even if BJ gets spot minutes, I still see the need for him as another outside shooter, especially if MikeG cannot hit threes. Might use him as a late sub in a multiple procession game. I know JB is not accustomed to going this deep, but the potential of some of these freshmen just might call for a slight change.

That leaves odd men out of Chino and Buss. Not a knock to them. Just a testament to the depth of this team.

Chino red shirts no question. Maybe Bus but I doubt it. Part of me wants BJ to shirt too because I'm not sure how much run he is going to get this year and id hate to waste a year of eligibility because in time hes going to be the truth. Rest of the team playsss.

How can you NOT go 10 deep?
Enis/cooney/silent g - guards
CJ/grant/BJ/roberson - forwards
Rak/coleman/keita - center
patterson probably wont redshirt based on guard depth
Chinoso is a likely redshirt

Hey, did the polls not work? I can't even vote on my own poll!
Polls. They're there when you don't want them. They're weird when you do.
Compaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaatibility Mmmmmmmmmmmmoddddddddddde!
Fudge.

Chino will likely redshirt. Patterson will get less run than either BJ or Roberson.

If had to guess minutes in descending order it would probably look like:

Ennis
Fair
Cooney
Grant
Silent G
Rak
Keita
DC2
Roberson
Johnson

With Patterson getting token minutes here and there and Chino redshirting. The frontcourt is really really hard to figure out though. We've got six quality players vying for 120 minutes. They include two former McDonald's AA's, an ACC player of the year candidate, a possible lottery pick and a guy who just dropped 51 points against NBA players. And the least-heralded of the bunch is probably the best defender. No way CJ goes less than 30 mpg, so that leaves no more than 90 minutes for the remaining 5. Not a bad problem to have, I think.

I honestly can't see anyone except Chino and Buss not getting at least spot minutes given the talent levels. Against teams where we a putrid from the outside I can see BJ playing more minutes. When things are clicking its probable BJ is the other guy not seeing the floor or only for a few minutes therefore going with a rotation of Rak/DC2/Baye ; CJ/Jerami/Roberson;Ennis/Trevor/MG

One thing that will also be interesting is if anyone tries to zone us this year. Adding Roberson to the mix I can't see too many teams trying it given how well we could beat them on the offensive glass with our size/effort up front. I think this could play a factor as well as to how important outside shooting will be. Last year our board work off-set the poor shooting numbers in conjunction with the stifling D. This year I could see that doing the same with the potential to be a better shooting team all around.

wow, my school didnt even offer "tavern math" when I was in elementary school.
I assume its like counting , except with beer?

Agree that Chino redshirts, and BJ and Buss get minutes in garbage time against quality competition. I think everyone is more than capable of contributing this year, but as Melo said, we know how Boeheim do. And as good as "The Beast" may be, I have a hard time seeing him getting minutes over Grant. I'm most interested to see how much Jimmy B will roll with DC2 at the 4.

I think Obokoh has to redshirt, as he'll get no PT.

I further think BJ gets the short end of PT also, because it's going to come down to JB needing more
ballhandling (Patterson) than an extra wing guy (BJ). Assuming he even goes ten deep, which I
think is a real question. If Gbinije proves capable as a ballhandler/backup point guard, there won't
be much of a reason to go that far into the bench, even though the talent is there.

Just to qualify my response here, it's important to state that the meaningful PT that I foresee will be during any game deemed "important". That pretty much encompasses the B1G Challenge, conference games that we're not winning by at least 20 with 5 minutes left and any ACC or NCAA tournament games.

Fair, Ennis, Grant and Keita are all in line for quality minutes for obvious reasons.

Beyond those four "sure things" I think Cooney and G both get plenty of minutes through a normal guard rotation, splitting time at the 2 and spelling Ennis (whom will likely be in the 30-32 mpg range). Then there's Coleman and Christmas. Unlike most of the opinions on the boards here I think Rak continues to start at the 4 and sees very little time (if any) at center. I believe he (Rak) will be hooked fairly early in most games to get Grant in and then it will be a matter of performance, match-ups and practice/game effort to determine who gets the lions share. My money is on Grant.

That's really about it. I agree that Chino will redshirt but Roberson, Johnson and Patterson won't see any real quality minutes in the afore mentioned important games. That is not a knock on their talent or ability but a testament to JB's philosophy and a review of our 2011-12 deep and talented team.

The one guy of those eight, that I see being our normal rotation, that could possibly be supplanted is Christmas. If he doesn't show something early, I feel he could find himself without minutes and behind Roberson.

One man's opinion FWIW.

its not whether I think everyone will contribute significant mins, besides Ennis and CJ, everyone else is going to have to earn time, or fill in if there is foul trouble.
I like Jerami, but I dont think that CJ should sit just to give him time. between the likelyhood of being called for a ton of fouls this year- the ACC just isnt as physical, and the ocassional "off night", JB will probably need to use most, if not all of our reserves.
That being said, if Ennis plays 30+ a game and is still going strong, Cooney turns into the shooter we hope is is, and CJ, Rak & DC2 all turn into all americans, we wont need anyone else

Obokoh and Patterson won't play much. 11th and 12th men this year.

Johnson probably 10th man, unless he outplays Gbinje. It doesn't seem like there will be room for both be in the rotation, unless someone gets hurt, or Cooney plays really bad and the other two take his minutes. It would seem Cooney would get first crack at the heaviest minutes from that group.

In order of minutes played(roughly), my prediction is:

Fair
Ennis
Grant
Cooney
Christmas
Keita
Gbinje
Coleman
Roberson
Johnson
Patterson
Obokoh

I think Chino would be crazy not to redshirt this year with the guys he's got in front of him. If he's serious about his education, he can also get SU to pay for his grad school this way.

don't u love the liars. without me it's boring. occasionally the board elite appear to tell u how wonderful they are or what u can or shant do. my overall theme is jb has been here for 38 years and melo was here one year. without him jb is the oldest coach that never won or the only coach to never win that can't play man.

What's boring? The 920 victories or the 2-3 zone. Either way it adds up to a Hall of Fame career and a career 75% win percentage. Oh yeah and 17 years of Sweet Sixteen or better including four trips to the Final Four.
