don't u love the liars. without me it's boring. occasionally the board elite appear to tell u how wonderful they are or what u can or shant do. my overall theme is jb has been here for 38 years and melo was here one year. without him jb is the oldest coach that never won or the only coach to never win that can't play man.

Who cares if they don't play man. By any measure last year's team overachieved by making it to the final four. Jim B. id a better coach today than he was 20 years ago.

We are deep, but I would be shocked when we came to ACC play if JB isn't down to his set 8 man rotation, with someone like Roberson, or Buss getting spot minutes in the first half. This is what JB does, he isn't going to change in his 35 or year. The year we went 10 deep is because we had upperclassmen at the back end of the rotation. they were guys who earned their time, and trust over the course of their career. JB does not play Freshman if he doesn't have, or at least significant, meaningful minutes.

Yeah Victor! Tell it like it is!

But JB and Melo DID win. Cry.

And I guess there are a lot of coaches that can't play zone.

If you've got an excellent defensive guard like Buss and he's not a starter that needs to be protected from fatigue or fouls, would you be inclined to use the full court press more than in the past? If so, that could get Buss more minutes than y'all seem to be expecting.-VBOF

Obokoh and Patterson won't play much. 11th and 12th men this year.

Johnson probably 10th man, unless he outplays Gbinje. It doesn't seem like there will be room for both be in the rotation, unless someone gets hurt, or Cooney plays really bad and the other two take his minutes. It would seem Cooney would get first crack at the heaviest minutes from that group.

In order of minutes played(roughly), my prediction is:

Fair
Ennis
Grant
Cooney
Christmas
Keita
Gbinje
Coleman
Roberson
Johnson
Patterson
Obokoh

I'd take 17 year old BJ right now over TC and MG. He has the most upside. I would use the OOC to get him ready. I don't know why everyone expects TC and MG to break out, based on nothing more than wishful thinking. After 4 games, TC has the lowest net points on the team, MG is a non-factor on offense and Bus is better off not shooting.

To Tee: What a creative, well-written post! Colorful. Imaginative. Thought provoking.

I don't have a clue about who plays and who doesn't, but I just had to say, dude, nice work!

and the "Don't call me yips" line made me laugh at work. Started to remember Chuck Knoblauch and Rick Ankiel!

Much thanks, my friend! I took some time coming up with the nicknames and I've got to still work on my poll skills.
:)

Knoblauch. I'm a Yankee fan. That was so tough to watch. He's a second baseman! I could have sworn if he got inside of 10 feet, he underhanded it a few times. Still, I can throw a baseball with my pinky toe with more accuracy than when Chuck had the yips.

I really hope the kid un-yips himself this year.

Melo doesn't go to S.U. without JAB. Put that in your pipe and smoke it.

And on your way out check in with aol.com... they may still have your old screen name "Goose" available. Feel relevant again, you might.

Igor, I'm disappointed. I really wanted to see your "boeheim" candidate for this year. Great year for this schtick, and you come up with the centers? Really disappointing, they will play.

I thought your real choice for this year was either BJ or Roberson. Both talented players who are looking at a tough numbers game. When they finally get their chance I suspect they will do well and you could have pointed it out to everyone ad nausem.

Outside of Ennis I really don't see any of the freshman getting a lot of time.

BJ could get get a lot of time if Cooney pulls a repeat of last year, Ennis ends up crashing (which he wont) and Gbinije or Cooney has to play the 1.

Patterson, not a huge fan, hope he proves me wrong, just don't see where he'll get minutes.

I love Roberson, but with Rak, Fair, and Grant getting minutes at the 4 (Fair and Grant getting a ton from the 3 as well) it just makes it very very hard for Tyler to get a lot of minutes.

Even with those 4 guys sitting, we still have an 8 man rotation where coach usually is comfortable.

Ennis
Cooney
Fair
Rak
Coleman

Grant
Gbinije
Baye

---------------------------------------

Bj Johnson
Ron Patterson
Tyler Roberson
Chino Obokoh (probably RS)

As usual, it's going to be very frustrating for the freshmen. They are ready to shine! But they must do the time before they see the prime.

It really makes me appreciate the phenomenal talent Carmelo was. And also GMac and Billy. That whole team was perfect in all respects.

Steve Sax had that same issue. Rumor is Monty Burns fixed Sax's yips when he played for Burns' softball team of ringers. :D

And let's not forget poor Donny Baseball. He might not have had the yips, but those sideburns had to go.

I think you start by saying we are going to have 8-9 guys that play in every game from Colgate->Duke

- The 3 centers will play in every game, their minutes will vary drastically, with anyone of them getting from 8-30 minutes any given game

- CJ and Grant will play and a lot, Roberson should get 8-20 minutes spelling them

- Ennis, Cooney, and Gbinije will be the 3 main guards - with Ennis playing a ton and Cooney and Gbinije probably getting more trust from JB

The wildcard is BJ and the 2G spot, can he gain trust to get minutes at guard? Does Cooney's shooting improve? Can Gbinije show any scoring or will he be a backup PG only?

Chino and Patterson probably don't see the court in half the games +

Very accurate in my opinion. Some of this uncertainty gets sorted out early, way before more meaningful conference games.
Of Cooney, Gbinije and possibly even BJ, I really think the hungriest player, the most aggressive of the three, maybe even four (counting Buss) will earn this position. Someone will step up. Puts a lot more pressure on Cooney, so I hope he steps up and shows us something.

Regardless, I think SilentG is our backup point guard. But I am hoping Ennis only gets relieved 5-10 minutes per game.

Hopefully we go with the hot hand because I think we need scoring out of the second guard
