We be what we is cuz you know how Boeheim do.
This is not about any specific player, not about the coach, about this game and not to rehash every argument the game, but seriously… who are we?
What’s our identity? Where are we going? What are we building? What are we looking to become? What’s attractive about us to a recruit?
Are we an offensive team, defensive team, physical team, athletic team, 3 point shooting team, driving team, smart team, deep team?
What is it that we can expect, every game to bring? At minimum?
What the hell are we?
I’m not mad, not upset just kinda…. Can’t explain it really.
Wish I could disagree with this.We are a one-dimensional three-point shooting team that is easy to defend. We are a 100% zone team, in an era when every team has multiple shooters and guys can now hit shots from 30+ feet with some modicum of consistency. We're the team that never adjusts, that doesn't substitute, and can't execute because the coach is stubborn.
We're a former blue chip program that has become mired in mediocrity.
Precisely. JB’s system has a floor. We’re not going to be awful. But our lack of top flight talent, coupled with being among the most predictable teams in the game (by design), means our upside is capped. We're a perennial 18-13 type of program at this point. This is a hard lane to carve out... tough to sustain "pretty good, not great" for a long time. String together enough 18-13s and eventually you end up with a 13-18.

We are Syracuse Basketball. It is our identity. And it says a lot. This is not about any specific player, not about the coach, about this game and not to rehash every argument the game, but seriously… who are we?

That’s a thoughtful response but it’s mostly what we were not what we are.We are Syracuse Basketball. It is our identity. And it says a lot.
Without revisiting the past I can't answer your questions. I'll take one of them. Let's see what's attractive to a recruit?
Under JAB in 45 years.
We have: 19 BE regular championships
4 " tournament championships

5 Final Four appearances
7 Elite Eight appearances
19 sweet Sixteen appearances
5 Final Four appearances
2 National Champion Runner Up appearances
1 National Championship
1 HOF coach who has never had a losing season
51 All Americans, first team , second, third and honorable mention 56 have played in the NBA
68 have been drafted into the NBA
24 drafted in the first round
At present Dave Bing is in the BB HOF
The Melo Center - State of the Art Basketball practice and training facility
The Carrier Dome which holds the on campus record for any BB game attendance wise -
35,446 vs Duke twice with 84 30,000 plus attendees since the Dome was built
Syracuse University - not a bad place to hang your hat
We are all of these teams in every game with various results depending on the game, our players game, on/off game on offensive, or defense.
You would not play here if you were not athletic.
I would say we are, under JAB, an elite basketball program and have been for many years which JAB began with a 26-4 record in 1976 - 77 and I believe we are trying to recruit the best players we can each year and win as many games as we can. It is not as easy as it was 10 - 20 years ago and the 2014 - 15 investigation and subsequent penalties - loss of scholarships - vacation of wins definitely hurt.
However we are also a newer member of the ACC having started in 2013. To date through Feb.6 we are 155 - 91.
Some of your questions are self explanatory. If you don't understand the number of and rotation of players you may not be watching closely enough.
Honest answers are provided forthwith by the Coach himself. I'd watch his presser after the Clemson game - you may get some of your answers there. Or call JAB at his basketball office at Manley and ask him where we're going. I'm sure he'd reassure you about Syracuse basketball and tell you where we are,
where we're going and the future.
As far as I am concerned we are 1,075 - 405 .726. We built it and renovated it big time and they came and they are going to come for a long time to see a Syracuse team trying to deal with, Covid, (like everyone else, hopefully gone after 2021), this year and move forward in a positive manner winning as many games as possible as we have in the past.
I think you missed my point. There's no argument with the things you mentioned. My point is right now, this year what is the identity of our team in regard to our style of play. If you ask me about any team since 83, I could tell you about the personality, identity and style of play of the team that year. Whether we were the big boy, tough underdog, bully, high scoring or scrappy. When I look at this team, this year, I think my question was legit. Who are we this year?We are Syracuse Basketball. It is our identity. And it says a lot.
