Who in Gods name cleared Waddle to waddle through that game ? He was a literal gimp ... are there not physicians on staff to save these kids from themselves or are they too scared of Slick Nick to put a stop to the insanity ?

My son told me right after Waddle went in that all kinds of NFL players were tweeting (or whatever) that it wasn't worth it and to just sit out. Including Mahomes. "Courageous" is not the word I would use.

They said during the game last night that he made the decision to play after consulting with his family. They also said that that although he was experiencing pain his leg/ankle was structurally sound.

If its a pain threshold and cant do damage same thing as Fields playing for OSU.

I'm pretty sure that the NCAA requires that all programs have a "designated team physician" to oversee the medical staff. Participation decisions are made by the medical staff, period, even on Saban's staff.

I get the "structurally sound" part, technically. But here's the thing, if you catch a crossing pattern and are running at 50% your normal speed with an abnormal gait, you are much more likely to get crushed by a defender.

So, to your point - I'm sure the ankle was structurally sound, but you are just a sitting duck out there to get a new injury or re-injure the one you have.

Well ultimately that is his risk to take and decision to make with clearance from the doctor. In consultation with the coaching staff they decided to limit his snaps. The young man wanted to play in the National Championship Game as it was apparently important to him. He made it through the game okay and contributed, good for Jaylen!

There is a reason why all those NFL players were saying to pull him from the game. I get it, it's a free country and kudos to him for wanting to be out there with his teammates, but sometimes adults need to be adults and make sure kids are given the best advice.

I know he's not some high schooler, but he's got millions on the line. Nick Saban isn't signing his check next year.

You could then also argue any naturally slow players are at increased risk.

Playing in the big one and building the brand.;)

Except for Jaylen Waddle is an adult; a young one but an adult nonetheless. I am in no way an Alabama fan but it refreshing the way these young men put team first - and I'm not specifically talking about Waddle. They have 4 and 5 star guys taking limited roles and "waiting their turn" so the team can win a championship. I'm sure these same NFL players you mention thought Travis Etienne should not have come back to play this year and should have entered the draft. Again, that's his decision to make. Somethings are more important to some folks than money. People that put money ahead of everything else just can't understand that other people are wired differently.

Not buying it.. if you are in pain to the point your gait is effected you are putting yourself at risk for further injury just by altered mechanics

He can make whatever idiotic decision he wants ... he can go swimming in the Nile..

The adult wanted to play, so what's wrong with that?

People get pains all the time they deal with which don't increase the risk of further injury. In fact, the altered mechanic is the body's defensive mechanism. So, the limp is actually the brain telling the body to shift weight off of the injured area.

Who says he wasn't given the best advice? Maybe the doctors and parents told him not to play but he still decided to.

You're not completely wrong, but not exactly right either. Altered mechanics can definitely lead to other problems. That wouldn't be what I would worry about here though.

Good point, as it could put strain on another part of the body.

He could even walk around without a mask on if he wants...
He could even wait in a bar line for hours without a mask or celebrate without one
