Can you swing by Toledo Express and pick me up?The pilot of my private jet is a good person and only needs a few hours notice, so I'm holding out a bit.
I have my hotel booked. Won’t pull flight trigger til official. Ritz Carlton Orlando. My wife and kids demanded something called a lazy river. I have no idea what that means.
Apparently it’s connected to the JW Marriott Grande lakes. Anyone there drinks are on me on the 27th. Great golf course on
I've been in Seattle for Racial Equity training since Tuesday, here til Saturday night. 9-5 each day, then putting in 5-6 hours of actual work once I get back to the room. I haven't even looked at flights yet. My plan is to head to NY around the 19th so I can spend the holidays with the fam. I keep hearing tix from NY to anywhere in Florida are ridiculously crazy. I have a good amount of Alaska miles, but that would only help me from like Newark or JFK to Orlando. I'll spend some time figuring things out on Sunday when I get home.
We did just find out that I have my first major report since I took over this program, due to the NIH on Jan 15. Was supposed to be February. There's a decent chance I spend all of Christmas break in the office.
I know there's times where I'm supposed to be responsible and whatnot, but Dino's first bowl game, ED's last game, is not the time to start
Breaking news on Wash Post's website right now is that a Tsunami warning has been issued for the Anchorage area.
I'm down in Seattle for work. Fam is good in Fairbanks, all my friends in anchorage are safe. Trying to get the girl to hit the store today, sounds like it will be a while before Fairbanks gets supplies
Just let us know what we need to write to. Anchorage has a minimal chance of ever having a Tsunami. It’s on a shallow inlet with vast tidal differentials. Areas like Seward, Homer, Valdez, Cordova, Whittier, and Other coastal zones are at high risk.Breaking news on Wash Post's website right now is that a Tsunami warning has been issued for the Anchorage area.
I have reservations at both Hyatt Regency Orlando and Aloft downtown.
For those who know Orlando, which would you consider the better property taking into account location, access to nightlife, etc?
Was downtown in late July, We're at Disney and went downtown for Orlando City Soccer game. Had a great meal at some divey Southern Cooking place. Because of game every body for three blocks was in purple. Was great atmosphere. Hope game produces same.
Looked it up , it was Chef Eddies. They purposely put the new soccer stadium in walking distance for this reason. It was difficult to get from the Citrus Bowl to downtown when they played there as traffic locks up after the game. The Magic are playing the Raptors that night so you'll see some overflow from that as well. Guessing you ate at the Rusty Spoon but could be a couple other places. There's some great dining choices downtown.
Aloft for location and nightlife. Walk 2-3 blocks North and you'll be in the middle of party central. They block off Orange Ave on weekend nights so you can walk down the middle of the street. It can get crazy, especially if it's a nice warm night. Downtown has gotten a little too "clubby" for my taste, but there is something for everyone, I mainly go down there for music.
The Hyatt regency is close to tourist trap central. Better choice for kids or for people who like touristy stuff.
Here is what I did in 1992. The wife and kids were heading to Disney Village to attend a conference. I was working in Delaware and met them at the Maryland Welcome Center after work on December 31st. Stashed my car at a nearby apartment complex and headed for Florida. Checked into Walt Disney Village and headed for Tampa to catch the Hall of Fame Bowl. Got there near kickoff time. Parked next door at a shopping center. Scalped 5 tickets in the parking lot and enjoyed a great SU victory over Herbie and Ohio State.
Regarding hotels around Disney. There were loads of empty rooms every where. A brand new hotel was advertising $28 rooms. After the conference! went to Daytona and stayed in a nice hotel right on the beach for about $30 a night.
