yeah when you see the replay its clearly a blown call. but when you watch the tv shot from side court in real time speed it sure looks like keita deflects it off the glass as his hand was up so high and then the mountain man banks it around his hand..

its not a bad a call as people are making i seem.. one ref is under the basket far side and that is not his call to even be looking for.. one ref is the same side as tv and on tv it looked like a block.. not sure the ref on the high side far side can really see it all that well either.

this is a much tougher call than simply was it coming down or in the cylinder and they miss those all the time too.. didnt they miss one in the ND?

really the only ref would have had a good view would have been the baseline ref but he was on the far side looking thru the glass and rim. had he been on the other side maybe he makes the correct call..

From a timing standpoint, it looked like a goal tend to me in real time because the ball "felt" like it was on the way down. That was just my gut, seeing it in the moment on TV.

From the camera angle, I didn't have the perspective on the ball being close to over the cylinder, or it hitting the glass first--speaking only for myself watching it on TV, I didn't see those things.

I thought it was GT when I saw the live TV shot..after watching a few replays I can see where a ref could have missed it. It was close.

I thought it was goaltending right away.

A shot has a particular look to it when it hits the glass first and is then deflected.

It wasn't flagrant, but it was pretty obvious.

Did it cost WVU the game? No, that can't be said. They may not have won anyway. Also, end of game calls are magnified because of when they occur. The refs blew plenty of calls throughout the game but THIS one causes uproar because it was at the end.

It was an obvious goaltend in real time too. Do not watch basketball?

Even on my computer stream I thought I was about to hear a whistle when I saw it. That said it wasn't definitive with my poor view, but that was my first impression. I'm glad we got the call though, and it was nice to see Baye defending the shot in that situation without a foul at least.

At the game on that end of the court, albeit up high, I never even had thought that it was goal-tending. Seeing it in slo-mo on TV, I agree it was goaltending but by maybe two inches and a split second. It would have been a difficult call for a ref, even if he was on top of the play.

Right away. I couldn't understand why action was still taking place.

I thought it was very clearly goaltending as soon as it happened. The ball, even in real time, was clearly on it's way down.

i watch enough basketball and coach enough and ref enough to know what calls are tough and which ones are not. it was only a 3-4 ft shot there is a reason they miss that call so often . the first thing they are looking at is contact , they are not taught to watch the ball flight.

like many calls if you are not in the right spot you cant see stuff. thats the reason people get so upset with some calls is that refs who are out of position make calls they assume are correct and often are not.

first thing I said to my friend next to me was I can't believe they didn't call that. Happy they didn't since we won but thought they would for sure hit a three for the win anyway.

if you are thinking it was goal tending because it was on the way down then you missed the whole point that on first view it looks like keita blocks it and deflects if off the glass. he actually missed it then hits it on the 2nd try.. that is the whole issue, the tv view is totally different than the view the refs have..

Keita hit the net. Isn't that basket interference? I thought the call would have been made on that basis, alone. From any angle on the floor, it may have been difficult to judge whether Keita got to the ball before or after it hit the rim. It had nothing to do with it being 'on the way down.'

I don't understand. If they had called it, it would have been our ball, tie score, with 6 seconds left. Not their ball, out of bounds.

A bad/missed call, to be sure. And unfortunate for WVU. But, it's not like it 'definitely' cost them the game. We would have had possession, tied. And if we didn't score or get fouled, there would have been overtime. I'd still weigh our chances of a win at better than 50% if they had made the call, either with the last possession or OT at home.

I thought it was apretty obvious goaltend in real time.

I know, I was saying I'm glad that they didn't call it since we won but at the time I thought they were just going to hit a three when they had it again with 6 seconds left.

In real time from 306, it couldn't have been a clearer goaltend.

A badly blown call. For that and several other transgressions, none of those refs earned his paycheck. For some reason, no one with the NCAA or the Big East ever seems to care.

Gotcha. I misread the intent of your post.
I was probably thinking the same thing. "Just our luck -- we get the benefit of a blown call, and then we'll lose the game because of it..." But, that was the Old SU, right?

Massive goaltend. I saw it from section 211 and immediately swore and was thankful it only tied the game up and we had the last shot.. Very fortunate it wasnt called.

Absolutely agree. Seemed obvious immediately. I yelled something like, "Damn! Goaltending!" before the ball came down.
