Why 5-0?

Both of those teams have second year coaching staffs and are in a building stage. They look to me like they are making progress, however slow and choppy. You know the story here at Syracuse. There is a reason why every time Syracuse football is talked about anywhere else in the country, it is with contempt or laughter.
What? But UConn and Umass are making progress but Syracuse is laughed at. Do you have any idea how ridiculous that statement is? Last years Syracuse team would go down as the best team in UMass history if they could have gone 7-6 with that schedule.

I don't disagree but we're not Miami 2001 and we ALWAYS limp into November. This year will not be any different. The definition of insanity type stuff.

We have picked off teams in November that have been equally disfunctional and/or injured as bad as us. I could see these schools being in that scenario but I'm not chalking anyone up as an automatic win after watching the last two games.

I had us at 7-5 and I think it's the hope. However, a few trip ups and it's going to be 5-7.
If that is the case then Dino is gone.

It's "you're" and them losing at home to a team that we beat soundly on the road speaks louder to the relative strength than anything else. I don't know how the same person can be so positive about UMass and UConn and so negative about the team he supposedly is a fan of.
He isn't a Syracuse fan. That is pretty obvious. It's odd that he roots for both UMass and UConn. One or the other I would think. He still thinks UConn has a shot at a bowl game but the Orange are a laughingstock.

Your arguments are weak.

That's what I can't understand. He is bending over backwards in order to paint a pretty picture of two crap teams. While, we still have a chance at a 7, 8 or even 9 win season, but THEY are on the rise?

You just said that B.C. is improving and they just rallied in the last minutes to beat Army. But Army is weak and B.C. is improving? I'm hoping for 7-5 with a shot at 8-4. Is 6-6 or ugh 5-7 in play? Sure. But if we are somewhat healthy, 7-5 is in my opinion, most likely. Va Tech at night will be a tough game coming off the 3 butt whippings.
Army is like a higher FCS team. That game with BC was pin a driving rain which really helped Army, but BC gutted out and won. Frankly, I thought Hafley was a lame duck and the team was going to tank, but now it looks like they are still buying in, so they could be dangerous.

Using Sagarin as the metric

VT is 79, BC is 90, Pitt is 75, GT is 76, Wake is 66.

Pitt and Wake are going to be coming off of brutal string of games themselves. GT is after Clemson and before UGA. VT”s offense is horrible.

SUs record against similar teams going back to 2021; Army 90-w, Purdue 60-w, NCSt 47 -w, UVA 88 -w, Purdue 53-w, BC 78-w, VT 79-w, Lville 52-l, FSU-62 l, Liberty 60 -w, Rutgers 88-l

7 straight wins

As long as they don’t lose any major pieces, 5-0 is very achievable.

Your setting this board up for a major letdown, we all know this team is highly unlikely to go 5-0 in that stretch. Wake and Pitt especially will be difficult games and @ Ga Tech looks a lot more daunting then it did a few weeks ago. 3-2 at this point would be a good outcome.

One game at a time.

If we lose a couple of key players in the FSU game, then 2-3 could be more than acceptable.

A little less zero coverage and be ready for the no-huddle hurry up offense this week.

Let's show some fight and fire this week, then let's take it from there.
Your last sentence is the key.

I will take 3-2.

I consider New York and New England to be 1 region. They are the same in just about every way. So many people go to work, school, marry, live from one region to the other and the weather is about the same. That is why I follow those teams, it's like they're family. A real big dysfunctional family.

Wake outside of Hartman is mediocre at best. And this is their worst team in years. In no way should they be able to win in the Dome.

Pitt is the worst team in the ACC.

I am not sure your wrong but If I told you, you had to bet your life savings on SU winning both games or losing at least 1 I have a feeling your not exactly rushing to pick 2 wins.

I will take 3-2.

At this point I will to, the performance against UNC and that bizzarro Dino PC this week reeks of 2019 and 2021 down the stretch issues. SU's record against Pitt is 2 for the century the last 15+ years and both those wins were at home. Dino's away record in the ACC is brutal much less the fact that his team are I think 1-6 coming off a bye. Again Tech is so bad we probably could will ourselves to a win if we come out flat and get into a Rock Fight but that game has potential nightmare written all over it. To me that game will lead the path on how the rest of the season goes. It's a game that if SU loses I think the wheels come off and things really get UGLY.

We have had a lot of late season collapses and that sucks. However, the late season schedules have been very difficult. This year? Please. If we don’t come out of this season with at least 7 wins that means the team quit on Dino and/or vice versa.

2016 and 2017 we ended with no QB. 2018 we won 5 of our last 6 reg season games. 2019 2 of last 3. 2021 was bad but we did end with 2 ranked teams. 2022 our QB was hurt but even then we won our last game on the road.

If I had to chose I would bet on SU.

IMO 7-5 is ugly. Anything less and I think he gets fired and nothing ugly about that.

I don't think many would be following suit at least at this point. I need to see how that game goes in Blacksburg first.

They’re buying in real well with that loss to UNI and 3 point win over holy cross. Maybe you can excuse the army game but that doesn’t eliminate their other pitiful performances. They caught FSU on a bad day it would appear considering how all of their other games have played out.

Yep there were injury reasons as well and a couple of seasons had decent endings, 2018 in particular. 2021 and 2022 had a lot of good teams on the schedule down the stretch. Not the case this year. 4 of our 5 losses in the second half last season were against teams who finished top 25 and the 5th(Wake) ended up as an 8 win team. Total opposite this year.

And 3 point win over UVA. And Army. They stink, we lose to them on a Friday night at the JMA we should shut the program down. Not saying it can’t happen, saying it better not!

Agree 100%

I think people read too much into the press conference.

That being said I am sure Dino got an earful for that performance. And he has to know his seat is warm. Which of course could explain his comments. When a HC starts feeling heat they like to come up with all the excuses.

I hope that isn’t the plan. Going fast will lead to a blowout. We need to shorten the game and hold it to a 34-10 type of game.

I should have been more specific. I wasn't talking about us to go faster. Heck, I wish we could march down field and chew up the clock the was Army did.

I was talking about our defense running less man zero, and our defense being ready for FSU to go no huddle.
  • We were not getting pressure so Long tried to go man zero (no free safety) and blitz. That wasn't very effective either.
  • When our guys got beat and we kept running man zero, our secondary started to play deeper to prevent getting beat deep. This only opened up the underneath routes.
    • My neighbors could probably hear me yelling at the tv every time it was third and 4 and one of our corners was lined up at 8 yards or deeper.
    • BTW, I hate playing "catch" technique. It's darn near impossible to cover a receiver who is coming at you full speed while we are trying to hold your ground with no press and no back pedal.
  • Against UNC it looked like we were late getting the calls in and the defense wasn't ready when UNC snapped the ball.
    • How many times did UNC run a deep route and our corners weren't even back to the line of scrimmage and UNC was ready to go again?

Be ready to rotate at least three or four corners (Johnson, Bellamy and Wilson or Delaine), five safeties (Clark, Simmons, Barron, Gould and Farmer), six or seven linebackers (Wax, Lowery, McDonald, Thompson, Sparrow, Roon and Baily) and six or seven linemen (Okechukwu, Darton, Ingraham, Jobity, Lockett, Simmons, and Fuentes-Cundiff). Play like your hair is in fire, then rotate to stay fresh and effective.

Keep it simple and play with heart.
