Seems like they should be on opposite sides if the ACC, setting up a good title game each year. Miami and Tech will have good seasons but more often than not it seems our division will outweigh the other.

I could see a season we sneak into the title game over Miami and Tech. But FSU and Clemson? Never..

Clemson is up now, but they aren't always like this. They've been at this level for like 2 years. Typically, I think Miami and Virginia Tech are better programs than Clemson.

Clemson did go into a funk for a while but I think I'd take their program and its history over Miami and its empty NFL stadium or Virginia Tech's run

Disagree. Clemson has never been Miami when Miami was the U - when they had top 10 teams and were competing for the national title every year.

The vision was that Miami and Florida State would be top 10 teams most years and there was pretty good parity in the rest of the divisions.

Clemson is not even close to VaTech or Miami history-wise. Their ten wins last season were the most they've had since 1990.

VATech is a recent phenom, they have never been Clemson. Clemson was top dog in the ACC until FSU came along (though it only led to 1 NC). VATech still has no history of being a tough out for the big dogs and once Beamer retires will probably take a huge step back. Clemson has been up and down and now they have Swinney so they should stay a power for some time.

Probably a weak effort to balance divisions. In the long term, the divisions probably will be balanced but the Atlantic will rule for some time.

When the divisions were formed, Miami was still playing in the Orange Bowl, and was 2 years removed from what probably should have been back to back national titles.

Made sense to keep FSU and Miami separate. Not to mention that it guaranteed every ACC team a game in Florida no less than every other year.

Clemson is up right now, but isn't quite the powerhouse program over the past 25 years that some would have you believe.

Another thing to note is since the inaugural ACC Championship Game in 2005, the split of Conference Champions is even--four for the Atlantic, four for the Coastal.

Recent? They've been pretty strong for 20 years(definitely better than Clemson over that time). I know many of us(me included) remember when they were a nobody, but 20 years isn't that recent. It's the entire lifetime of every college player, basically.

Clemson certainly has a longer history, and they're better right now.

still trying to imagine that Duke beats FSU and gets to a BCS game..
