- Because it’s 2017 (and 2011) all over again. We don’t know how to win and the effort is bound to lag as the losses pile up. A promising 2017 ended when Wake Forest turned a 38-24 halftime deficit into a 43-64 win followed by a 10-56 clobbering at Louisville and a dismal 14-42 loss to these Eagles in the Dome to close out the season with a 29-138 run. The same teams can do the same thing to us this year.

- The Eagles have two 240+ blacks, AJ Dillon and David Bailey and a veteran line we can only dream of having and they pound away at you all day, trying to break your will and often succeeding. NC State thought they had a pretty good defense, (especially after playing us) but BC rushed for 429 yards in that game, 223 from Dillon and 181 from Bailey, and crushed the Wolfpack 45-24. The Eagles averaged 7.2 yard per carry and rushed for 5TDs. Can they do that to us? Of course they can.

- We should have an advantage in passing but if one team id dominating on the ground and the other in the air, the ground team usually wins because they sustain and finish drives and dominate the clock.

- Yeah, Dennis Grosel is averaging just 90 passing yards a game and completing just 35% of his passes. Dino Babers explained that on his show last night: Grosel’s job is to hand off to Dillon and Bailey. He’s under orders to when passing to get the pass off and just aim for open receivers. If nothing’s there on the first read, he’s going to chuck it out of bounds. They don’t want 3rd and 10. They want 3rd and 2.

- We have some great pass rushers but against a team that doesn’t pass much, what good is that? This is about meeting them at the point of attack, something we didn’t do so well against Cam Akers.

- Penalties: we have been whistled 78 times for 629 yards. BC, 45 times for 346 yards. That’s a difference of 283 yards, 35 yards a game. More importantly, you can’t get your offense going if gains are negated and you keep having 15, 20 or 25 yards to go from deep in your own territory. BC doesn’t do that to themselves. We do.

- Against a team like this you have jump out in front and make them play catch-up hopefully we can get a lead and force them to abandon the run and go to the pass. Why am I even typing this? The last three games we didn’t score a first half touchdown and were behind at halftime by a combined 9-58.

- The look test: Does this Syracuse team look like a team that’s going to win another game this season? Nope. Coach Babers twice described this as a “bad season” on his show last night, even though there are four games to go and we could theoretically finish 7-5. He knows his team and he knows that’s not going to happen.
