Why can’t QBs in college play under center that much?

Couldn't agree more. You can be in the gun and then go under center too for those 20 seconds.
I think having a qb under center is certainly better than what we've done in the shotgun (which hasn't been great)

being in the gun isn’t what our problem is. It would be even worse under center esp prior to this year

Being in the gun makes it easier for a defense to defend us.
Being able to mix it up makes our presnap play more diverse.

Being in the gun on short yardage situations is stupid. If you can’t snap under center That is stupid.
Goal-line situations being under center opens up play action.
Being under center opens up slant routes.
Opens up bootlegs.

It’s not complicated.
Obviously we want to be able to go spread and play out of the shotgun as well.

Could be for a couple reasons. Your QB would have to learn and develop the footwork for 3, 5, 7 yard drops. It’s also just more efficient for college players when you get down to it, think of a play action pass when your QB is under center, they have to turn their backs to the defense to run the PA and then turn back and read everything that happened correctly very quickly. Where if you’re running an RPO or just a straight up PA pass out of shotgun your QB can keep his eyes down the field and read how the defense reacts directly.

I get the shotgun is helpful but it amazes how college football coaching don’t work on putting their QBs under center.
For QBs sneaks.
For the victory formation(too many QBs need the shotgun to just kneel the ball).

Under center opens a play book for play action, for bootlegs, reading defenses.
I remember in 2011 Bartholomew our C couldn’t shotgun snap so Nassib always had to be under center and Louisville took advantage of that overload blitzed the A gaps numerous times because we couldn’t get into shotgun.

Now it’s the opposite.
Gilbert is an OC right?
Teach our QBs how to friggin take a snap under center just to have in our rotation.
Even if we shotgun 90% of the time that 10% is helpful.

So anyone know why we can’t add that to the offense?
I use to think that as well but I no longer complain about it as much. There's a reason why most dont go under center on the goal line. Its mainly because the zone read holds the defense enough for them to play honest. Plus, you can still do all the things you mention in shotgun. We were actually one of the teams that ran some under center plays. Im not sure if we were more successful on the goal line with or without it. Gilbert hasn't done it as much but Ive seen some this year.

That’s exactly it. You can run everything out of the gun that you run under center. We also run pistol too.

I've seen people die on alot of hills on this board, but this seems like a weird one. You can absolutely run play action, slants all that from the shotgun.

Right. You can run boot out of any play fake and run your flood pass concepts and if you are a pistol team the QB can hide the ball with his back facing the defense.

My issue is short yardage that's all. If you have a big bodied qb when they are stuffing the run on a 4th and inches, i'd rather him squeeze through at the line vs 4 yards back.

Board is like run run pass punt portal to the past

Tucker had to come out of the game on the carry he got that was snapped to the QB under center last week.

RPO and the decline of the fullback is why. And since we tend to have a worse O line than the opponents D line it you have to go shotgun most of the time in that situation. But its better for sweeps and bootlegs. We should run it more.

Shame we don't have a legit OC if we had an equal to White on the offensive side I'd give us a chance to win the ACC.
