Why did that dude in the gray polo run onto the field to the referee in the 3rd qtr?

Random Q but to anyone at the game. Sometime in the 3rd quarter some guy in a gray shirt ran all.the way onto field to the official standing behind the QB, right before a ball was to be snapped. He communicated something, and then ran off. The ball was snapped while he was still a good 60-70 feet on the field. And no whistle was ever blown. I don't think I've ever seen thT before.

He then ran all the way up the tunnel.

Anyone else catch that or know what that was about?

But other than that, based on how they were officiating, it might have been tips on being a ref for the first time ever
