I just watched the Refs beat Maryland and am wondering why throughout our stroried history, we dont get the calls in our league that those two do in their league. I realize now we might be considered an ACC team, but what about all the years leading up to this?

I suspect that if you talked with the fans of other BE teams, they would disagree with you.

If you watched the UNC/Maryland game you wouldn't say this. The only game I can recall watching that was as blatantly unfairly officiated was a Duke/FSU game about 4 or 5 years ago. I hope we don't get treated like this when we start ACC play. Because if they can treat Maryland and it's players like this, we don't stand a chance.

Exactly. After every game we get to read all the conspiracy theories regarding the refs trying to sabotage our season. It's pretty funny.

go ask West Virginia if we get the calls. Or UConn two years ago when Cahill called time out.

It's a whole conspiracy from the mind of coach K, we've covered this before I believe. Part of the conspiracy is anti UCONN, which of course is why Jim C's back started acting up again.

Don't try to pin me to that nutbar's nonsense from the other day. Today's UNC game was called in a way that was obviously in favor of the Tar Heels. Do we get calls in our favor sometimes? Sure. But I've never seen it happen to where it tilts the game in our favor completely over the course of a game.

because you're biased like all fans of a team

I did not care who won the UNC/UMD game. Objectively, it was a horribly one sidedly called game. I've never seen pro SU refereeing like the UNC game. But go ahead, keep trolling and say it's the fans.

Good god, what game did you watch? If you turned the game on and only saw the Len foul call on Henson's dunk attempt, then maybe I could understand your comments. But that was a horribly called game all around. Had you watched it all without hatred blinders on, you would have seen an obvious goaltending not called on a MacAdoo jumper. You would have seen Zeller take an elbow and get called for a fourth call. You would have seen ticky-tacky fouls all around the entire game for both teams. Give me a break, dude.

Are people really comparing the occasional favorable treatment we get from the refs with the treatment that Duke gets?

I understand that people want to appear objective, but to compare the two is ludicrous

You see the West Virginia game last week?

Have you watched any Pitt/Cuse game in the last ten years?
what? so a ref missed a call in our benefit vs WVU. happens every game to every team. Im talking about a systemic favoritism that we certainly do not receive. Anyone that cannot see the difference between Cuse/Duke/UNC is trying too hard to be "objective"

Plenty of fans of other teams that watch our games feel differently.

The other thing about UNC / Duke is that they are better than everyone else in their conference by a lot. When they go to the tourney things seem to even out for them.

In games when there are bad calls, usually both teams are victimized by them. Sometimes the referees get lazy and call touch fouls outside while ignoring the real tough stuff inside. Sometimes they take over the game and call too many fouls. Those things don't tend to favor pone team over another. It's said that Burr and Higgins favor the visitng team but I haven't seen that in our road games.

The thing that bothers me the most is when they allow physcial teams to be more physical than teams who have a reputation for not being physical. They wind up calling the same number of fouls so it seems like the game was officiated in a balanced way but it really wasn't because one team got away with stuff the other team wouldn't have.

things dont even out for us in the NCAA...refer to the Butler suplex

because you're biased like all fans of a team

Bias is clearly the issue here. A couple of points:

1) If you believe that refs have never caused a deserving team to lose, you haven't watched much sports.
2) Refs can also be biased, as in, 'UNC (Duke) always have good teams, they are better, they will make the plays...'.
2a) Refs bias II, I think Craig Forth got called for at least 50 blocking fouls over 4 yrs where he was standing still with his hands straight up, because the refs just assumed that the big white slow guy deserves the foul.
3) I agree that SU doesn't get the UNC treatment, despite one obvious bad call against WV, but I am biased.
4) I think there have been several games this season where the calls were one sided against SU, but I biased, but I'm also right;), which is why I don't feel guilty about the WV game,
5) On the other hand, I don't believe any of the conspiracy theories.
6) I think UNC/Duke get treated very well in the tournament.

I can name 3 games in the last three years that were officiated with atleast a 10 plus badcall margin in the other teams favor. And I am barely brainstorming.
And this is coming from someone who slo motioned them.

At Gtown 09-10
At Nova last season
At home against Pitt this season. Heck half a game they ran about 20 illegal screens in the second half let alone the other stuff.
Its pretty clear as day to me. NO secrets at all.

Other ones to mention that could meet the 10 plus bad call margin in the last few years...
ISU in the tournament last year how many illegal screens did they get away with 10 in the second half.
At WVU 09-10 how many charges did they give us in the first half something like 5.
At Nova this season was pretty poor.

Also on some rarer occasions Refs have been known to go after our weakspots at times, and keep teams in games with bailout phantom fouls. You can't tell me that fab melos first two foul calls were great calls agaist st johns to put one of our stars out for the half. So he was in the circle the guy jumped into him. Howbout a no call he wasn't even moving or attempting to block the shot. And the over the back was pretty crappy.

Heck just last game we were bodied by st johns during the shot off the drive a few times and they don't call it. No wonder Southerland got mad (that and the guy turned the other way with three seconds left ignoring his opponent).

Also I remember when Okafor got screwed in the first half of a final four game against Duke a few years back.

For those who don't think its obvious go back and watch last years game at Nova. Slo Motion it and be amazed!
It will change your opinion forever I promise!!!

Maybe it has to do with our lack of success once getting to the Sweet 16 vs. Duke's and UNC's records once there. ;)

It still cracks me up to no end, that people believe the officials care who win or lose these games... they are graded on getting the calls right. I know we like to play the blame game... but, the refs dont care about your basketball team.
