I kept thinking we would go 4/3 switch Armstrong for Ant. Stack the box.

And Whitner was nearly useless.
He was up and down
Had a few nice plays but yes got caught out of the way and takening out of a lot of the run plays.

Also we did bring safeties into the box a bunch.
Cisco had a few Freshmen moments and missed some plays.
Yeah, he whiffed a few times for sure.

I kept waiting for him to get a pick.

Did foster get injured? That seemed to be the major problem. Foster went down, ify went to the nickel, and Cordy went to safety. When foster went out it def changes the defense. He was in the box the whole game

Cordy was twenty yards off the line when they were running every first and second down. Really odd to not force the throw when we clearly couldn’t handle the run.

That hurt. Foster is like a LB out there.

Yeah, it was big. There was no mention of it but I’m pretty sure that’s what happened. We don’t have another safety that plays the run as well as him

Good catch. I'd assume it's the same injury he had last week - just couldn't go any more.

Cisco whiffed on some plays because he didn't cover his gaps and tried to use his HS instincts to make a play. He got caught dropping down too far, moving out of his gap assignment, or both at the same time quite a few times on run plays. Absolutely can't do that in this defense but it's completely expected when younger players play higher level of talent. Have to trust the system and not your instincts, in a way.

I thought early in the year people thought Clark was gonna be the safety? is he playing at all?

really need to find a way this week, some of these guys if they dont play this week get 3 weeks off before we come home.

Our LBs outside of Armstrong just aren’t big enough to provide meaningful gap coverage against a team like that. The safeties learned the hard way what’s its like to play legit run support and they will be better for the experience. Recruiting bigger LBs needs to be a priority moving forward because it seems some of our younger ones (thinking Fabian specifically) have not planned out.

I think you will see the issue get better with the size and athleticism upgrade we have made at the safety position though. Cordy is great against the smaller teams, but he was getting steamrolled when he was playing in the box. That’s why they moved him back.

Guthrie absolutely covered his assignments yesterday and made more plays than he missed. Agree though Whitner got taking out in the wash too often

It might just be the plays where I noticed him specifically. I saw a lot of plays where was in the gap and then got sealed or just missed the tackle, same with Cisco. I think he made some nice plays, but it’s hard to beat a running team like that when you don’t have a Zaire Franklin or Paris Bennett filling gaps. Didn’t help that they were gassed at the end.

Yeah, our DL and LBs just looked gassed in the 4th yesterday. It is what it is. That’s what happens when you go against the third deepest team in the league.

they give everything they have, but often the size issue means they take the easy shoulder instead of the proper shoulder and when a back is that fast it leads to bad things, but the dline didnt read some of those runs correctly either too.
