The reason that our pipedream is a winning record is that we see it as a necessity for getting better recruits.  A winning record will get us better recruits, but it will not get us the best recruits, the ones we need to compete for a major bowl.  Half of all teams have winning records.

Recruiting has two parts; 1) reputation as represented by both the record on the field and the coach, and 2) facilities.  They are both important.  It is misguided to play down the importance of either one.

In summary; it is no longer ; 'win one for the gipper', it is 'show me the money'.
