Why is it...

That said a broad statement, he has had bad plays and has looked bad at longer moments, but often in the same game has looked great and some of the bad things aren't entirely on him.

But the folks here focus on the bad with intense night vision and turn their head and shield their eyes from the light of the good stuff.

I’m standing behind Board Rule #1 on this.
It blows my mind that of all the things people are getting frustrated about on offense that DeVito is taking heat.

He's the only reason we've done anything on offense this season.

Yeah, he's had some misses and bad plays. But nobody else has done as much positive as he has.

Bunch of milk drinkers here.

I’ll be in the cigar bar with a whiskey if you need me...

It just seems like somehow we’re taking MORE time to run a less diverse offense vs the last several years when we took “much” less time to orchestrate a broader look. I could be wrong, just observing as a fan.
What exactly was broader??

QB looks at 1st read, decides its not there...and takes off??

Interesting.

Dungey wasn’t a one read QB - he was forced to run after getting through his 1st read consistently though.

I have to believe that part of his propensity to run was based off the schlacking’s he took as an unprotected 19 year old freshman.

Regardless, doesn’t matter now. Our new guy likes to take off early as well, he’s just gotta learn the North/South thing and where to throw a ball away.

TD takes a beating here because his inexperience leads to shockingly bad decisions at times. He’ll develop as he gains more experience, but a large amount of the criticism has been warranted.

He’s still ok, and should get better to a degree.

Why is it... that people keep posting cryptic and uninformative thread topics?

Everyone’s bad play deserves criticism.

I just wouldn’t be declaring the painting a finished project with 6 strokes of the starting paint brush.

I’d say his floor is higher than Dungeys and his ceiling much higher, but right now he’s closer to his floor than where Dungey was mid way through his career while he was leading us to 4 win seasons, when not missing games hurt.

I’d say he will get better to a much larger degree.

Especially if we throw out McNabb and use every single other QB in the history of the program as the bar.

And not the current Heisman candidates, which apparently the PlayStation nation here
is...

My only criticism of TD is that often he won't pull the trigger on throws that are open. Gun shy I guess. Hopefully, he will get better with this.

I mean he was recruited as an Elite 11 with the likes of a those guys that are in the Heisman race...TD just makes some REALLY bad decisions and puts the team in a hole..

3rd and 37? 3rd and 23?...

I think a lot of people gave him a break at the start because he was “young” (remember if he didn’t redshirt he would be a junior). He does show flashes of potential...but must times in the game he looks like he has no clue what’s going on. Nothing has changed from week 1- week 7 of college football regarding his IQ and the game slowing down. That’s why people are starting to freak out.

not expecting him to be Tua out there but expecting to see some development and progression so far and that has been severely lacking. The question then is...is it Tommy or is it coaching? That’s a question we will find out as time goes on

But see, that's not accurate to say nothing has changed.

People said he had running lanes and wasn't taking them. He started taking them.

He had what looked like some bad interceptions in the first three games. That has cleaned up.

Things were not in sync receiver wise vs Liberty. That has improved a ton.

The dude can't be flawless. And if that's what the offense requires, the offense is fundamentally broken.
